Ihave a couple of stiens that were my great grandfarthers. One is a full size, appx. 1 liter, the other is much smaller. I have no guess to it's volume. They were made in Germany before World War II. They are in great condition. I wonder if they are worth anything?

I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about the valure of the steins, but I do have a story about German heirlooms.

A friend of mine has a German wife. When one of her elderly relatives died, they were left an oak dining table and chairs in the will. Now, oak furniture is expensive in the UK and they needed a new dining set, so they got it shipped over. When they unpacked it, sure enough it was good quality oak. The only trouble was it had a big inlaid swastika on the table and swastikas carved into the back of the chairs. So they put the stuff up for sale and got about £5,000 for it. As you can imagine, the people who were interested in buying it were SCARY!

I would peruse Ebay. Old stiens can be quite valuable. Is there any kind of stamp or mark as to the maker? Also the size is sometimes stamped on too.

The only thing I can make out is the Made in Germany stamp. The larger one has two other markings on it, but tell me nothing. The smaller one has a name under the stamp , but most of it is worn away. The bottom does not look like the larger one yet the decoration suggest is a companion to the larger.

I know they from the stamp they predate the Berlin Wall as the say made in Germany with no East or West. That coupled with the age of my great grandfather and the length of time that I have had them would mean they were made before the wall.
