... this sucks. Beer, chocolate, and anything with sugar seems to make me feel very nauseous these days, and has for the last week or so. I don't know what's going on. Even went out and bought a blood glucose monitor to see if I was losing my pancreas, but it seems to be fine. Anybody else have this problem or know what it might be?

I suppose if it gets much worse, I'll be sending out a lot more beer with the shipments I'm getting ready...

Let's hope it's just a bug... the weirdest part is that I love beer, chocolate, and many sugar related products... and right now they all sound AWFUL.

Just to keep this topic going (and to ask for advice or recollections of similar situations), has anyone here heard of these symptoms or experienced something similar? The prospect of having well over 4 cases of homebrew that I can't drink is DEPRESSING....

Since it's only been a week, it's probably a bug. You should probably take it easy for a while.

Not to be terribly obvious, but - have you thought about seeing a doctor? If it's just a bug, you'll get some peace of mind - and it's probably better than soliciting opinions over the internet. Hope you feel better soon.

Go see a doctor and be quick about it! I didn't have a homebrew for two weeks and I got the flu. I tried good substitutes like SNPA and PU, but they just couldn't replace good homebrew.

Sounds more like a stomach bug than an allergic reaction or anything else like that.
When I get sick I completely lose interest in beer, chocolate, food, pretty much everything. It all tastes like crap and makes me feel worse. About the only thing that I eat when I'm sick is Chicken noodle soup...

Maybe you have a bug and it's interfering with your bodies normal way of processing the yeast in your beer so you're basically "full of it"...??

1. Don't listen to any medical advice given on an internet discussion board, certainly not one dedicated to beer.

2. If you break the above rule only do so if the advice you're following is "Go to the damned doctor already".

If it makes you feel any better, my girl just got over something similar. Could be the same thing, but since she doesn't drink beer or eat much chocolate I couldn't tell if she could handle it. It lasted about a week and all she could eat was animal crackers. Everything else didn't settle in her stomach. i guess it was like a flu that never really hit hard, just kinda lingered for a week. You should still check out a doctor though.

Isn't that technically medical advice and therefore by definition should be ignored?

See, the problem is that I don't trust any of the doctors that I know of around here, and any time I ask someone for a recommendation, they only tell me how bad their last visit to their doc was. I know it's time to go, but I gotta find someone that isn't going to yank my chain and put me on 4 new prescriptions because I have a hangnail...

I never go to the doctor unless I'm running a fever for more than a couple of days or blood is jetting out of my body where a limb used to be.

Fret get better soon. I know how you feel about doctors. One of my best friends from school is a doctor and he'll never go to a doctor either! His advice is always drink a glass or two of scotch and get some sleep. That may not help in this case. But sleep and fresh air are really important.

Fret, I hope you feel better but please see a doctor. If high sugar content foods are giving you trobule, I would think some blood work needs to be done, but I am not a doctor.

You don't have to let them put you on any meds if you don't want .

I'll always remember something my Mother told me once when I told her to go to the doctor. She said "I ain't going to no doctor! Two of my friends went to the doctor and they died!"

Fret, I had same type "bug" several months ago...Could not eat much of anything for about a week. Just bland food with nothing in it. Mine went away after about 5-6 days. If not I am sure I would have eventually gone to see some doctor.

Fret, Seems ya got ill shortly after the discussion about MythBusters and the airborne fecal coloform. Hope ya did'nt breathe nuttin nasty. OK, Not funny. Ya gotta find a local Doc you can trust. Your simple blood pressure and pulse and some simple bloodwork can tell alot about your physical condition. I used to get that sick feeling often and come to find out I had a heart problem (atrial-fibrolation). My heart beats really wierd and effects all of your/my physical functions. Took a long time for them to figure this out. Hopefully you just caught a simple bug that will go away soon but ya gotta have a personal physician you can trust. BTW I am not a DR. but my initials are DRWeaver. I sometimes get calls at home asking what I specialize in, and I always reply... breast exams! :D -DRWeaver-

Well, my feet seem to be s-l-o-w-l-y waking up after being asleep for about 3 months, and I've been laying off the sugar A LOT... so tonight I'm going to have a beer for the first time in a few weeks and see how it goes. Still waiting for my sense of balance to return, though... it's kind of spooky when you try to walk one way and your feet go another. Damn TN doctors - if they weren't so full of themselves and weren't so ready to pump people full of drugs that they could never afford without their insurance, I might keep trying to look for one. As it stands, I'm just trying to stay hydrated, eat right, and get my exercise at work.

Actually, this is the best I've felt since December. Not bad!

Yeah it almost sounds like a diabetic problem with the loss of the feeling in your feet and all. Have your docs screened you for that with a glucose tolerance test?

chazwicke

Fret, Please go and get checked!

fretlessman71

I've got a glucose monitor that I bought about a month ago. No readings over 120, no matter how long it's been since I've eaten. Fasting level is at about 77. Been around diabetics for about 20 years, so I know what to look for. The "loss of feeling" in my feet is due to a pinched nerve, and the reason I know this is because there's no discoloration in my feet to go along with the standard foot swelling that is common with diabetics. It's certainly something in my back... which is good news, because I THINK I just found a chiropractor that I like. Will keep all of you posted....

brewmonkey
02-24-2004, 02:01 PM
If you are having probolems with your feet going numb and yo suspect it is a back problem I HIGHLY suggest you do NOT see a chiropracter and instead visit your physician. You may only have a pinched nerve, it mat be worse. Generally numb feet from a back issue is found at the L4/L5/S1 vertebra and what is causing the pinch may be Spondylolisis and/or Spondylolisthesis. There are non-surgical remedies unless you wait to long (like I did). I too thought that it was only a pinched nerve. It was something entirely different.

Not trying to alarm you, but when it comes to your back you can never be to careful. They can easily diagnose the above with an X-ray.

Dr. Fret....
First I heard a pinched nerve causing problems when you eat sweets. You must be a doctor of holistic medicine and know entire body is connected and works off of all other body parts.
If not, you need to get your A$$ to doctor. Try medical school there, you may be patient they are looking for to teach new doctors about the fretlessman syndrome. Vanderbilt is a medical school isnt it? Will be inexpensive is that what you are worried about.

I was reading some reviews on some of the original episodes that are available on video or DVD. It was sad to learn that much (if not all) of the original music has been dubbed over with phony re-makes. I've heard that this is due to the high prices ASCAP, BMI, and the other music copyright companies put on song usage.

Just wouldn't be the same to see Johnny Fever hesitate before announcing Blue Suede Shoes as the Elvis version, realize that it was really the Carl Perkins disc he'd played, and actually be hearing some lame knock-off.

Still waiting for my feet to fully recover, but they are improving every day. Balance is changing, too - I'm just going to have to get used to it all over again, but it's coming back! And all it took was being nice to my pancreas for a few weeks, and being nice to my back for a few months. Finally found a chiro that I think I'll like; going to see him sometime next week. The morning DJ on the best rock station in Chicago plays nearly the whole episode in serialized segments throughout his show on the day before Thanksgiving every year. Cracks me up every time.

In-between segments he plays hand-picked songs to highlight each scene and he calls it something like the "WKRP Thanksgiving Rock Opera."

better get it checked, cured and start imbibing again.
