In my opinion the best books on the subject of homebrewing are

Brewing Quality beers by byron burch. This is a good beginner book and will get you through quite a ways.

Once you want to start making your own recipes and such then the book Designing great beers by Daniels is the best I have found on the subject.

For a techie book chekc out Brewing Lager beers by Noonan. This is the definitive all grain book.

Good luck and Welcome to the great world of homebrew

"How to Brew" by John Palmer is one of the best books out there.
The 1st edition is free on line at:

http://www.howtobrew.com/

Both editions are in book stores and home brew supply shops.
It is a very easy read and explains the processes very well from simple to detailed.

You must get the "New Complete Joy of Homebrewing" by Charlie Papazian. It is a bible for new brewers and old dogs alike. (you can't skip the basics you know) The following link is a page from the brew store that I go to that lists a bunch of beer books. check it out!

Prost!

i'm just a newbie to this hobby, but i use john palmer's online book (www.howtobrew.com) and charlie papazian's new complete joy of homebrewing.

what i do is...if they are both in agreement, i do that always. if they differ i research what the differences would mean and do the one that sounds like the beer i want to drink :)

i think "how to brew" is the best way to learn what ya need to know. the online version is great and its free, but i definately recommend picking up the book. its only aroung $16 and the book goes into many more details that are great to know and needed when your experienced.i'm new to brewing also and this book walks you through your first brew and goes as far as to explain what to look for in your local water report and how it will affect your finished beer.
