SN Porter
12 oz bottle - 5.6% ABV
Deep, dark, clear brown with the slightest red hue. Tan to white, creamy head that settles to a nice cap, but thins to a filmy, bubble topping.
Roasted malt, chocolate/toffee nose with faint hint of diacetyl as the beer warmed.
Smooth roasty flavor with sweet toffee and dark fruit flavors back. Hop and dark roast coffee finish.
Full-bodied, thick mouth-feel.
A very nice drink to while away a Saturday afternoon during the Winter doldrums.
SN Stout
12 oz bottle - 5.8% ABV
Deep, black cherry in color - nearly opaque. Rich tan head that settles to a nice cap, but thins to a filmy, bubble topping.
Roasted black patent nose with dark fruit ester notes.
Crisp, dry, roasted flavor. Black Patent Malt flavors dominate. Fruit note in finish, somewhat cloying.
Full-bodied, syrupy mouth-feel.
Very reminiscent of Guinness Extra Stout, but lighter in body and more mellow in flavors.
Given a choice between the two, I think I'd choose the Porter over the Stout, but both were very tasty and true to style.

You really should do this professionally Steve! I feel like going to the paint sotre right now to get some of both!

I prefer the SN Porter to their Stout.

Thanks Beaver, but I think that if I was pressed to write professionally I'd fall flat on my vocabulary! That or each review would probably start to sound like a Raymond Chandler novel, "The Imperial India Pale Ale's hop character was as inconspicuous as a tarantula on a slice of angel food, but at least it was bitter." ;)

I've been a fan of SN since the first time I learned that there was something different than Coors Light. They just don't make any mistakes with their brews! Great stuff!

Beer has nothing to do with banjos, dueling has been a contest of skill and finesse for centuries. Besides, that was Georgia - not Northern California. I'd at least have preferred a comparison to Duel at Diablo or Duel in the Sun, if you were going to pick a movie.
Geez - you guys will find a double entendres in anything. Guess I won't be reviewing Young's Dirty Dick anytime soon. :/

I disagree. I do agree with Beaver. I find that most people who write reviews of their beer come off sounding like computer generated sound bites. Your writtings have a personal feel, almost to the point I think I am sitting there with you enjoying the beers.
Please keep up the nice work.

Thanks for the encouragement Wort, I think of RB.com as our own virtual pub - why not "talk" genuinely as we would sitting at the rail? Especially about our favorite subject! Okay, maybe second favorite subject. ;)

I think you do an incredible job of it. I think talking genuiely about it is the best way. I have read many reviews on the internet and magazines where in the end, I had no clue what they were talking about. I guess some people want to explain it in a way that they are better and smarter than the rest of us. I think some of them even invent their own big words to describe something. In the end, even though it sounds good, it doesn't really give a person a good idea of what to expect. Keep up the good work!!

There is no pressure. We just ask that you keep doing it, and by the way turn in five reviews this Sat. by 2. (just kidding)

Oh Harp, I'm so ashamed - you haven't been paying attention in class! ;)

Hmm - no, I haven't seen that one - I need to get back to the K-Town store. Why Big Easy? Some cross between Bock season and Mardi Gras?

Thanks, and cool - bring your notebook!

Boy, is my face red!!!:o Don't know how I missed it...I typically check new for threads every day. Interesting stuff, though..isn't it? My local has been out for a while; I think I will need to rattle their cage a bit. I did get them to obtain some more World Wide Stout, Olde School, and they are working on some 120min (love that Dogfish!).
I had passed over the Big Easy, thinking it was a run-of-the-mill lager, but their website calls it a Doppelbock...and I do enjoy a good Doppel. I have a Mardi Gras party this Sat. maybe I'll pick some up.
I hope there is still some Dreadnaught available in March...I keep missing the stuff whenever I venture "South of the border"
Well, at least I now have three bombers of Double Bastard, with many thanks to one Mr. Hopjack...looking forward to cracking one of those bad boys open.

I have only been on the computer sporadically lately. Traveling and such. But I too wanted to chime in with praise for Steveh. He is taking it on the chin for us trying all these beers. If he didn't then we would have to drink those beers ourselves........Hey.......wait a minute...
Anyway, keep up the good work Steveh! I find your reviews to be right on.
