i was just wondering if anyone had favorite beer progressions-- i.e. somewhere b/t 2 and 4 or 5 brews that they like drinking in a progression and seem to fit well together, sort of like courses of beer.

of course i know the whole light->dark less hoppy->more hoppy less strong->strong thing etc., but im interested in specific combos of beer that people enjoy drinking in an order, and why.

I usaully tend to stick to one kind/style/brand in a "sitting." When I switch, I always think I liked the last kind better, so I dont enjoy the one I have a present. If I switch again, I think the same thing about THAT beer....so I try to stick to one. But when I do do it on purpose, I start big and go small, because a really big beer I can only drink one or two of, but I can then sip on the smaller beers on a full stomach for the rest of the night.

If I'm going to drink more than one I always tend to drink the one with higher alcohol last because after that I can't taste anything... I rarely, RARELY have more than 2 in an evening.

i tend to go big -> small too... i like to start off with big, complex, expensive beers. its nice to have a clean palate and clear head when trying the good stuff!

then after a barleywine or imperial ipa or 2, if i'm looking for more of a session beer, things like yuengling are much more tolerable. heck, i've even been known to drink miller lite or budweiser by the end of the night! (although, those kinds of nights a rare anymore...)

I star with my last beer and work to my first. If you start with our first that last comes to quickly. If you start with your last, it can take some time to find your first.

The first time I started this I started with my first beer and worked to my last. The last time I started with my last beer, it didn't last as long as my first, which became my last anyway, so the next time I start with my last beer, I'm going to make it my first.

Well, today what I thought would be my first turned into my last before I even got to enjoy the first:(
