Sounds scary huh? I don't know the name of parts in a faucet so I'll have to describe it. On the very front of faucets, there is a round piece that pulls in when you pull the handle and pour. I noticed there is a black crust forming around it from my beer(cherry stout). It is dried beer not mold or anything like that. Is this normal or is one of my o-rings/gaskets in my faucet bad? It is not dripping, just starting to get a build-up from many pulls on the keg. It is brand new and this is the first and only batch since I got it around a month ago. Just courious if this is common or I need to fix something.

Get a faucet wrench (weird looking little thing you can find at your HBS for about 5 bucks) and remove faucet. Soak faucet in PBW. Bye, bye crusty.

I'm not too concerned about it as much as I am courious if it is normal. I have a wrench for it and am going to clean it once this batch is gone. Beer still tastes good and it hasn't killed me. Just becoming an eye sore to me. Nobody else would ever notice it. So does this happen to all faucets?

Yeah - I've seen it. It's just dried beer.

That is the biggest reason I sold my tower and taps. It grossed me out and I'm a lazy bastard so now I have enough cobra head taps to go around and a couple extra for emergency gross outs. They're a lot easier to take apart and drop into a bucket of sanitizer. And the entire thing is in the freezer keeping cold, not hanging out the side where it can get warm and dirty.
But now I have this 3" hole in the top of my freezer that I have covered with duct tape. Anybody know the R value of duct tape?
:)

My taps do the same thing and I keep a spray bottle of cheap vodka on hand and just give them a spray every once in a while. This keeps it from building up and sticking.

I think it would be about 1.something;) . You might look into cutting a piece of styrofoam to be just a bit smaller than the opening and filling the rest with expanding foam. Still won't look too pretty but hey. Or, just put the tower back on for ornamental reasons and don't use it??

It kept hitting the wall everytime I opened the freezer so now Croc4 has it. Yep, I've been thinking about the styrofoam idea for a while, but like I said, I'm pretty lazy and it takes me a while to get around to things sometimes.

Have you heard of the study done where Grey Goose lost to a really cheap brand of vodka in a taste test? The catch is that they ran the cheap vodka through a Pur filter pitcher before they served it... interesting!
