I brewed an All Grain Brown Ale Yesterday. During the mash I noticed little white things on top of the mash. At first I thought they were bugs, but they were sprouts about 3/16 inch long. This was fresh malt I just received it the day before. I understand well modified but isn’t this a bit too far. My gravities come out good but I don’t know how this will affect the final product.

I've seen the same thing a number of times and have had absolutely no ill effects. I believe it's referred to as the acrospire.

Well, malted grain is grain that has been sprouted, then dried out. They try to get rid of the sprouts, but it isn't 100% effective. And they float, so they'll be on top of your mash.

In short, don't worry, be happy! And have a homebrew.

This is a good thing.

Not only does it tell us the malt is well modified, it tells us your mill is not over grinding the grain.
