First of all, I am very flattered by how friendly and helpful people are on this website!

I have a question to add to the mix:

My wife and I have a brief layover in Chicago at the Amtrak Union Station (Canal Street). Are there any beer stores at or near Union Station (3-6 block vicinity) where I would be able to pick up a little something to enjoy in my sleeper? It doesn't have to be a micro brew haven, just somewhere thats within walking distance where I could maybe get some Goose Island, etc etc

I just found out on the Amtrak site that you bring your own booze on board as long as you stay in the sleeper!!!! We would both enjoy having a few microbrews while enjoying my train ride at the same time.

Please respond! Thank You in advance!

Boy - I'm having a difficult time trying to picture anything like a liquor store near to the train station - I know that there's a Walgreen's across the street, and a Bennigan's too - but I can't picture any liquor stores. There are a lot of shops within the station too, so there may be something available there, but I guess I've never looked around for a liquor store.

When are you traveling through? I have a friend who works near the station who I can call later this morning (Monday) to see if he has any suggestions.

Okay Tony, here's the best bet I can give you. Union Station is bordered on the east by Canal Street, on the west by Clinton, and on the north by Adams. Two (city) blocks north of Adams, at the corner of Madison and Clinton, are the Presidential Towers, a residential (deluxe apartments) complex with its own shops and stores within.

They have a Presidential Market that also carries liquor. My pal who works down the street has made beer-runs there for after-work drinks for the office. He says that they have a good selection and they're bound to have Goose Island.

Here's a link: http://www.presidentialtowers.net/shopping.htm And the market's phone number is there in case you have your cell-phone with you or you want to ring 'em before you set out.

Good luck! I hope it stays warm in Chi for your trip - they're predicting snow for this weekend! :P

Steveh--

Thank you for your help and input. This should make the train trip for us more pleasurable (and less thirsty!)

If you ever need beer advice for the Twin Cities (Mpls/St. Paul) be sure to post and I'll hopefully be able to help. Thanks again!

Tony, good luck with the trip, always like to help promote the consumption of good beer! ;)

Sorry to hear about Sherlock's Home - I never had the chance to check it out.
