Don't put your spent grains in the trash container at subzero temps. I have a foot deep blob at the bottom that will be there until spring. I've tried to chip it out, but it's rock solid.

Throw your spent grains into either a compost pile or into you garden. We use ours in the rose garden my wife has, awesome roses last year. In the pub we have a farmer who picks them up as feed/filler for his cows. I believe he adds some vitamins and mixes it with some other feed.

My spent grain, and hops, go into the compost bin. That with my grass clippings makes for some really black, rich soil.

That's where mine usually end up, but with waist deep snow, I took the "easy" way out.

brewmonkey, can you put the strained-out hops in the compost too? Or would the resin acids cause problems??
