View Full Version : Where we live

My first post. I'm sure this will have come up before, but why don't we have a field for location in the user profile. It would be useful to know where people live, even if only the country. The only way of doing this that I can find is to put it in your title. Or perhaps I'm missing something. I'm in London (England) by the way.

It has indeed. Since this is a US-based forum the assumption by many who post here is that the members of the board will be from the USA. However, since the Internet knows no boundaries, contributers could as easily be from Yorkshire or London as they could be from Chicago or Washington DC (all of which locations are represented here).
Most other boards have these kinds of facilities and I do not understand why this one does not.

Welcome here Chris. I like the Zappa avitar but I liked your skull from the OBBD forum better. We do have a thread asking where everyone is from somewhere here. Richard is correct that this board is primarily Americans and we do have other posters from the UK and even Finland here. I'm form Washington DC area. There are several of us whom also post over at OBBD and that one is great because it is mainly your fellow countryman. It does indicate where a person is posting from.

I thoroughly enjoy the concept of talking about a favorite subject with input from around the world. I'm a member of different forum groups on other subjects that draw posts from around the world as well, the internet is truly the international neighborhood. And if love is the international language, beer is certainly the ice-breaker!
I'll contact the Admin to see about adapting the User Profiles because it is definitely a great idea. Also, check the categories of Beer & Travel for more global input - and welcome aboard Chris.

Funny, Richard, but I have never assumed that a U.S. based forum would only include people from the U.S. I also post on other U.S. based forums, but I have never assumed that everyone would be from the U.S. In fact, I love posting with people from other countries.
By the way, Chris, I have been frustrated by the lack of profiles here, too. Oh, and I am from the Chicago area.

I would think it could be done easily. The Oxford Bottled Beer Database Forum is very similiar to this and they have it.

THEY DID IT!!!! THEY DID IT!!!! EVERYBODY LOOK UNDER YOUR NAME!!!!
So, go on... go to your user controls and profile, and TELL US WHERE YOU'RE FROM! (Or, in my case, where you're going to used to be from... or something like that....)

dont know that one. is that the hog call that people in Arkansas do for the razor backs?
fretlessman71
01-30-2004, 03:42 PM
Basically, yeah. I think it's a real hog call! Although why you'd want to call one is beyond me. I hear some of the "country folk" around here yell it when they're a-hootin' an' a-hollerin'....

I glanced quickly and saw Fast Eddy's and Fret's - you sure you don't need a "refresh?"

Stan is the one and only Stan Hieronymus, inimitable beer expert and beer writer (see his latest feature article on Imperial IPAs in All About Beer), who manages this board and allows us to spread our crazy fanaticizm around the world!
