Without getting into legalities...or govt. issues, I have a question.
We all know that distilled wine makes brandy and that distilled corn is whiskey...potatoes- vodka , agave-tequila etc....etc.
Im quite familiar with the concept of an eisbock and freezing off some liquid to increase abv%. Ive done so with many cysers and hard ciders myself....and we all enjoy a good barleywine now and then, but what would a distilled barleywine be? In essence my question is what product would distilled barley make? a grain whiskey? or what?
Inquiring minds want to know

Beer is my favorite drink. Perhaps this explains why scotch and canadian wiskey are the only shots I'll do. (except Jager...)

GOOD Scotch is way too tasty to do in a shot...FOR SHAME!!!!:D It must be savored; shots of scotch is like putting fine ale in a frosted mug!!!!!
I will do shots of Tequila...very little else.

I gotta go with bluesharp on this one...tequila,jeger,and blended whiskey is about the only thing that hits a shot glass...scotch,brandy,bourbon. and all other fine distilled spirits are tumbler dwellers in large portions:cool: str8 up

Your stronger men than me!. Just can't do spirits anymore. Maybe if I found the right kind things would change. Not really into experimenting to find one. Just give me my beer and I'm a happy man!!! Guess it sounds narrow minded of me.

imo, good tequila is BETTER than good scotch. ever sipped on a shot of Patron or El Conquistador? tequilia definitely goes with BEER better than scotch.

oh...GOOD tequila...? You are correct, actually. I've had tequila that would rival the finest cognac. I wouldn't waste that on shots.
However, if I am at a bar, and someone insists on buying me a shot, Jose Cuervo it is. I don't care for the cough medicine flavored booze (well, maybe a Rumplemintz or Dr. McGillicuddy)
I remember a night shortly afer I had moved back to WI from MN...I was lowt on money due to the lag between starting a new job and my first check, along with deposits for rent, utilities, cable TV, etc.
I went to a sports bar to watch the Packers on Monday Night Football; they had a special - $.50 shots every time time the Packers scored or got a turnover.
As luck would have it, that particular game they scored aver 30 points, had three interceptions, and recovered at least one fumble.
I drank ice water for free all night and had about 8 shots...great buzz...:D

And, on a hot summer day, a nice, cold gin and tonic.

So I just have to ask. I guess I don't know anyone that enjoys liquor except to get drunk on. So do some of you get into different liquors as much as quality beer. As I said before, I don't drink it so as ignorant as it may sound of me, too me it just isn't that enjoyable. Guess I am drinking the wrong kind but to sip on a sniffer of it, I just don't know if I could do it. But yeah, back to the question, do any of you treat liquors like your beer?

I definitely treat my single malt scotches like my beer. Every time I go into the Beverages and More, I buy another bottle. My prized possession is a 25 year old Macallan. It was a bonus from work! To pour a glass of scotch and sip on it is almost as satisfying as doing the same with a quality beer.

I'll have to give it a whirl sometime. Of course you guys will have to direct me in the right direction.
After all, the single malt sounds good to me but just gotta see what my tongue thinks about it.

Im not quite as fancy as some coniseuers but I do treat a fine distilate with respect...a good Chivas Regal is about as high$ as I go,,,Maybe a Cabo Wabo tequila....I have great respect for the 12 yr. oak aged single malts but the commercial varieties are fine with me....dont get me wrong I LOVE beer....but on a night like this ,snow piling up outside, I enjoy a snifter of Christian Brothers Brandy just the same..

yeah. i do. if you come over there is usually 1 bottle of high end tequilia or scotch stuck away somewhere. high end starts about $40, and thats where I stay, but a friend of mine will sometimes bring me an even nicer bottle when he travels to mexico.

I love Macallan. I've found that the 12-year old is delicious and not expensive. Haven't tried anything older but I've been told that the improvement in quality isn't as significant as the difference in price. Regardless, a glass of Macallan is definitely something to be savoured! mmm!!!

I agree with you about the quality/price differential. 25 year old Macallan is incredibly smooth and insanely delicious. Would I have paid $250 for it? No way in hell. Since it was free, though, I was happy to take it off their hands!:D
The 12 year is very good as well. And only $30 at Costco. Hell of a deal if you ask me.

Another vote for single malt scotch, along with high end tequila and cognac. I know people into premium gin and vodka as well, but I never got into them as stand-alone liquors.
If I am just in the mood for a rip-roarin' buzz, it's shots of Jose Cuervo...that stuff is damn near psychedelic..

Speaking of high end vodka - I saw a television show a couple of weeks ago that had people doing a blind taste test on two vodkas. One was a high end vodka like Grey Goose, the other was super cheap crap. The people were consistently picking the crap vodka but here's the trick: the cheap vodka had been filtered through a Brita Water pitcher. I need to find someone with a good understanding(taste-wise) of vodka and give this a try.
BTW my favorite high end tequila is Don Julio Anejo.

when i'm not drinking beer, chances are i'll have a snifter of single malt or a martini.
i like my martinis with just a few drops of vermouth and a few drops of lemon juice, with a lemon peel twist. (shaken, or course!)
while we're on the subject, has anyone tried pepper vodka, e.g. absolut peppar? quite curious about this...
a glass of dry, woody, spicy cabernet is also quite nice!

When I stray from beer, which is almost never, I like gin and tonic. Nothing fancy. Tanqueray will do. For shots, nothing but Jager. Old habits die the hardest. I don't do many shots these days.
