I brewing my first 10 gallon batch, and thought this would be an opportunity to compare/contrast 2 different yeasts. It'll be an old ale. Any suggestions on which types of yeast I should use?

Be creative. Don't necessarily go with traditon on this one. Use a British style yeast in one and something completely different in the other. Then see how they turn out. That's the beauty of homebrewing!

I think I'm going to propogate yeast from a couple of different batches. Here are the 3 yeasts that I'm considering: Irish Ale, London Ale, and European Ale. Which two do you think will give the greater contrast? My guess would be European and Irish.

I ended up using Irish Ale yeast (from a bottle of Old Speckled Hen clone) and London Ale yeast(from a Courage Ale clone). The Hen was bottled in August and the Courage was bottled last month. There were significant differences in lag time. The yeast from the older bottle was a full day behind the newer yeast. They both ended up with vigorous fermentions.
