... you're going to have to do the actual WASHING with a bottle brush. But you can SANITIZE the bottles if you run them through the dishwasher - NO SOAP - and make sure to dry them on the heat setting. A quick dip in OneStep or StarSan and you're ready to bottle.
As always, I bow to the senior homebrewers here if I'm off base...

...theoretically, is the purpose of "washing" bottles by scrubbing them out just to get the gunk out of them? I mean, sanitizing takes care of the other part of cleaning... am I on the right track here?

I use the dishwasher (with regular detergent) after I've washed with a bottle brush in the sink..... is that bad?
Also - a quick rinse with Iodophor (or whatever) - should you let it dry? Letting it dry it seems would take forever and would just let bacteria thingys back in, wouldn't it?
And if you bottle wet, wouldn't the sanitizer affect the taste?

thewiz, (and anyone else questioning the "no rinse" properties of sanitizers) check out this fabulous article on idophor... http://www.bayareamashers.org/maindocs/iodophor.htm
secondly, the important thing to remember is you can only sanitize something that is already clean. a sanitizer will not clean for you, it's a two step process....
thirdly, if you sanitize in the dishwasher, (and I have, it works fine, I just don't bottle any more...) don't use a rinsing agent like JetDry, the word is it can negatively affect head retention.
