I wanted to use this thread to show you guys the modifications I made to the Marga grain mill I bought. This first picture is the completed mill.

This photo shows the rollers. When you open it this wide, it doesn't allow you to put the adjustment knob into a detente, but it stays where it is anyway.

This photo shows how I had to widen the mouth of the original hopper. It is now 1/2" wide. If you don't widen the opening, the grain in the mill gets stuck.

This photo shows the larger hopper I made from 1/4" thick acrylic sheet. The modifications I've made allow you to mill 10 pounds of grain in 15-20 minutes. I've read that you can motorize it using a drill, but I didn't think it was necessary.

OldHooky...you're my hero! i have the Marga mill and was wondering how i'd deal with all-grain quantities...even just crushing specialty grains took awhile. thanks for the tips and the photos!
let me know if you come up with a better method for catching/holding the crushed grains too. that lil' tray isn't the most efficient method, i'm sure.

How do you guys like your marga mills? I am considering one.

before seeing OldHooky's modifications i thought it would only be good for crushing small amounts of grain. i'm feeling better about my purchase now.
as far as the quality goes, i find that it crushes very well and it's easy to maintain. it also breaks down to a very small size, if storage space is an issue. i definitely give it a 'thumbs up'.

The Marga works well with the modifications that I made. As it comes out of the box, it will take forever to mill your grain. I found that I get a very good crush. I open it up as wide as it will go, and that seems to work fine. There isn't a detente for the adjustment knob at it's widest point.

I've been giving that some thought. No good answers yet. It's not a huge problem for me until I motorize(if I do).

I also have the Marga and don't think it can be beat for ease of adjustment. Old Hokey's mods are easy to make and a good idea. I've been told you can remove the adjustment knob to drill a detent at the max opening but haven't tried it. No big deal to use it as is though. Seems to me it shouldn't be too hard to come up with a chute to replace the little collector bucket. Might have to work a turn into the design to direct the out put to the side. ? ? All said..... can't be beat for the price.
