Hey, I work at a beer store. I want to sell my homebrew there, but I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I was just wondering if anyone knows what steps i have to take to make it legal. Thanks

I can't speak for the USA but in the UK you cannot sell homebrewed beer unless you get a licence to do so. And that means that you have to register with Customs and Excise as well so that the duty payable can be assessed.

Alcohol is taxed in the USA as well, so I'm sure that similar rules apply.

I am sure that selling your homebrew will suck all the fun out of it! You would need to work with your local/state Department of Health and brew in a licensed commercial kitchen. The place you work would have to comply with the local zoning regulations (your home is not likely to be zoned for a commercial business). You will need to get federal licenses since alcohol is regulated at the federal level.

On the other hand if you barter with friends for things that each of you makes....? I doubt that anyone is going to nab me for the case of porter that I made for my buddy the sausage maker from whom I am going to get wine infused chorizo sausage. Now all we need to do is to find a cheese maker! :)

Not to throw more of a wet blanket on your idea, but even if you finished all the above steps, you can't directly sell your beer to your liquor store, it has to go through a distributor, which means convincing them there's a market for it and it's worth their time...
