View Full Version : Saflager, how much to pitch?

My Saflager S-23 arrived today and I will probably be putting my batch on Sunday or Monday. On the DCL website, it recommends pitching two packs of 11.5g when cold pitching. My question is, what would be the results if I pitched(cold, around 14c) one and added some yeast energizer?

Really slow.

Lager yeasts ferment best at lager temperatures, but reproduce slowly at those temperatures.
A much better choice would be to make a starter, get it fermenting vigorously at ale temperatures, cool it to lager temperatures, and then dump it in.
