I will be near Milwaukee next week and I am looking to add to my vast beer collection. Any suggetions on who has the BEST beer selection in the Milwaukee area? Thanks.
Prost!

Todd,
I solicited the advice from a Wisconsinite friend and fellow beer hunter. Discount Liquors is a place that many in our home-brew club have been visiting for some years now.

He says, "It's on the 4900 block of Oklahoma Avenue." And if you'll have a car, "The easiest route is to exit on 60th St. off I-894 and head north to Oklahoma then turn right. You'll be there within one mile and you'll be happy with the huge selection of everything. One note, they close at 2 pm on Sundays."

Will you be in Milawaukee proper, or near by? There are quite a few good beer-bars in and around the city.

Good luck, I hope your Beer Hunt is successful!

Thank you very much for the info steveh! I will have a car, but unfortunately this is going to be a quick stop while passing through. I have previously been to Water Street and Milwaukee Ale House and enjoyed both. I wish I was able to hang out longer. Thanks again.
Prost!

another good beer bar is rock bottom (downtown milwaukee on the river). decent pale and brown ales. thursday night is $10 all you can eat wings and all you can drink taps, a deal you can't beat with a stick (note: lots of college kids).

whenever one of my SE WI buddies drives out i request a case of lakefront brewery east side dark :)

Now THERE's a beer worth traveling for! The Klisch brothers have been making some great beers for a long time now. The Riverwest Stein is probably my favorite.

yeah. when i recently moved to denver i forgot to get a case to bring with. the guy helping me move brought a case with him so i managed to sponge a few.

anyway, that is one of the better microbrews out there. the tour is fantastic, too. $5 usd gets you 5 beers, a pint glass, and a reasonably intelligent tour...and perhaps, if the crowd is small, a trip down barney brewer's slide!

Our home-brew club takes a private tour almost every year and we'll all pitch in and have a pizza party in the dining room afterward. We'll bring home-brew to swap with the brothers and get an open bar in trade!

I haven't been in a while, but the last I heard they had to close down the slide due to someone getting injured and making waves. Takes all kinds.

Did you ever get to the original Lakefront location? The size difference is amazing, but there *were* some good taverns in the area.

didn't know they had to close down the slide. i'll tell ya, some people *sigh*

never was to the original location, but i do realize that the current location is quite large for them. last time i was there caterers were setting up for a wedding reception in the hall.

not just good beer, but good people, too!
