I'm going to be vacationing in Orlando next week, and would like to hit some brewpubs during the visit. I've found a few pubs (big river @ Disney, Shipyard, Hops grill, the Mill) but I would like to find some more. Has anyone tried these establishments? Does anyone know of any more within driving distance of Orlando? Thanks.

Orlando was great, huge lack of good beers though. Did find Rossi's pizza, witch had a good selection of micros, and we did Disney's Big River Brewery. It was very nice. Decent beers, excellent food and service. Also got to try strongbow cider. I don't know what to think about it. I don't know if I like it or not.

I know this is late, but I have two fond beer memories of Central Florida from a visit s few years ago:

1) A nice brewpub in Lady Lake (about 45 minutes North of Orlando) called Spanish Springs.

2) A Saturday afternoon at the Ale House on Kirkman Road (I think). A decent beer selection and good atmosphere.

Otherwise, it's a BMC wonderland....

we saw the orlando ale house (there are several of them in the orlando area), but didn't get to try it. Never enough time. And forgive my naivity, but what is BMC?

There used to be a shipyard brewpub in the airport. Is that still there?

Im going to be in Orlando on the 28th of february. Any chance you could post your findings when you get back? I'll be looking in the disney area for decent beer as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I looked for shipyard in the airport but couldn't find it. I would suggest you hit Big River at Disney, maybe look for a place called Hop's brewery. I don't know if it's still there or not, I didn't look for it. Otherwise, you'll be lucky to find a place that has anything other than the ordinary on tap. Overall, orlando isn't a great place for good beers. I guess you have to go north.

The only thing I could recommend to you is to check out Pubcrawler.com for Florida beer places. Florida, however is not exactly the hotbed for beer brewing. If anyone attends or has attended the brewpub at Disney, let me know of you findings; my family and I are going to Disney in December of 2004. I do know that there is a great brewery in Tampa, I believe called Abor. Check out Pubcrawler for more info.

Me again:

It is not Abor, it is Ybor. I have never been there, however a beer drinker friend of mine has and he liked the beers. That being said, the brewpub has had mixed reviews. It is probably an alright destination if you are staying in Tampa, but if you are in Orlando I don't think it is worth the drive.

Went to the brewery at disney about two weeks ago. It was nice. The food was excellent, the service above average, and the beers very nice. Overall not a bad place. A little pricey but not bad.

I will be visiting Orlando in November this year and I am hoping to visit a brewery. I have been in communication with Rob Bernys
Brewmaster, Orlando Brewing Partners, who has been very helpful. I will let you know how I get on but I am sure he would be pleased to hear from anyone wanting to try his beers. He tells me that some are British-style ales.

He's at:

I actually live on the outskirts of Orlando, 20 minutes away really. But, there's nothing to great as far as bars or micro brews. There's a irish pub near where I live named Mulligan's, definitely a fun place to go to watch some games and have a few brews. The local hops grill just closed down, but there's still some around town. Hops had some really good brews of their own!

Not sure if this helps you out at all, but threw my two cents in :) . Also, from the orlando airport or disney I am a good 45 min to an hour drive. So I really don't have much knowledge as far as what is on the other side of town.

Later,
Dick

Thank you all for your comments. You may like to know that I have now tracked down a brewery - The Orlando Brewery - which is going to be able to accommodate us. The brewery is, I understand, actually in Orlando and details can be found here www.orlandobrewing.com
