UGHHH ... I was more than a little disappointed when I got home this evening and turned on the TV to see Roger Clemens (http://www.adianelanefan.com/irish/rogerclemens.jpg) (a retired New York Yankee) in a Houston Astros jersey. As many of you know, Andy Petite (ex-Yankee) is also pitching for the Astros, so the transition for Clemens was made easier, being closer to home and playing with one of his best buds.
The Yankees have reloaded as they like to call it, but its not (in my mind) going to be the same team we are used to seeing. Not one lefty (pitcher) in the rotation. I'm still mad at Cashman for not resigning Andy ... this fiasco never should have happened. Sorry for the rant gang, but I love the Yankees and this off season has been upsetting on more than one occasion. Outside of everything, the two of them are in longhorn country (UGGHH AGAIN!) ;) to Fast Eddy ...

I still remember the classic Seinfeld episode about 8 or 9 years ago when George is yelling into the phone "You tell that son-of-a-bitch that no Yankee is ever coming to Houston!".
Ironic...

Ugh! not baseball already!
Sports radio around here doesn't ever stop talking about the Yankees,
and these off-season trades are just giving them more fodder...
They practically give Arena Football more coverage than the NHL
(esp. with the lowly Rangers aspiring to stay lowly -- heh heh).
And for the anti-avs fan (I'm not either way with them, except for that
whole Stanley Cup thing that they took from the Devs) here's a sight I
saw on another forum. Seems like it was put together by a Wings fan
living in Denver...

Go Wild!
(That should get all the Avelanche fans going!) I'm not a huge hockey fan, but living in Minnesota, you almost can't escape it. Went to a few Wild games last year and they were a lot of fun. I think they over achieved a bit last year, as this year they are struggling to find their offense.
As for baseball, well I'm a diehard Twins fan and one of those people that love to see the Yanks lose! Living in a small market sports area will do that to ya, I guess. ;)

Yes, Coors Field is so nice I think I'd watch my neighbor's kids PeeWee team play there. I actually got to play a show there for a celebrity softball game about 4 years ago, and I also played a few "pre-game" entertainment gigs outside the park as people were filing in. Seems like it was SO long ago....

Look around the boards here... you'll see ads for it here! They have well over 100 beers on tap or in bottle... and NOT CRAP BEER, either. They're just a few steps from the Home Plate entrance to Coors Field, down Blake Street, I think.

That's amazing. I've heard, in the delivery room, you pretty much act on impulse. You really don't have time to think, you just do. That, and I guess you're really not concentrating on the blood and stuff, just your wife, and the baby. True?
hopjack13
01-14-2004, 12:48 AM
uh ...no, it's pretty nerve racking and the blood is not to bad it's just the anticipation (sp?) is what got me. and worrying about is the wife and baby going to be okay. you have to pull the baby out, i thought i was just going to catch like a football
untill the nurse started yelling at me "HELP HER!" then i reached in and grabed her underneath the arms and out she came! i was the first person to touch her and the first person she saw. when she looked at me i wanted to cry she was soo beautiful. i wish you the same experiance i had! it's really great!

hopjack13
01-14-2004, 01:03 AM
yeah, nervous is putting it mildly. nothing can really prepare you for it. i had been through it before and it was no easier the last time then it was the first.not exactly something you get used to.
but i wish you and your wife the best! my hopes and prayers are with you , may you have a happy healthy baby and the best experiance of your life! it'll be great , try not to stress untill it's time , and you'll be fine.

At least it was nice to see them have a decent season... Seattle is another of those teams that I follow that usually plays mediocre year in, year out. They got into the playoffs this year... by the back door, to be sure, but they got IN. Maybe next year they'll have that playoff win they've been looking for since 1983!
Stodbrew
01-14-2004, 02:11 AM
Yeah, they did have a pretty good season. I know the feeling of not having a championship in a loooong time. Being a SF Giants fan, well, they haven't won a World Series in my lifetime. I still have nightmares about game 6 of the 2002 series:mad:

The Av's signed Sellanne and Paul Kariya. I think Kariya was a Duck last year. The Av's should do well in the playoffs this year if all the egos are checked at the door. They have 3 lines where everyone on those lines are 30+ goal scorers. Some may not put up the numbers this season but the assist #'s will be there for them. It looks to me like the west will come down to Colorado or Vancouver.

True. Abeschiere was a concern and I for one was thinking trade for someone at the beginning of the year. Go Wolves! Last night Kevin Garnett and my Timberwolves beat defending champs San Antonio Spurs on their home court to take over first place in the division! If Garnett doesn't win the MVP award this year, it will be a travesty! I used to be a big NBA fan in the 80's with Magic, Bird, etc. But I really lost interest in how the game has turned into a no fundamentals, who can be the flashiest, slam dunks, etc. But Garnett is a throwback in a sense. Works hard on both ends of the court, home and away, first quarter and last quarter. There should be more atheletes with his attitude. (Tim Duncan being one of them.) Now if they can just manage to get out of the first round of the playoffs.....:p

Totally understand, fret. Like I said, I lost interest in the NBA quite a while back, but once and a while, there's someone that reminds me why I loved that game in my youth. Garnett is one such guy. I actually like college basketball better than the NBA, although the University of Minnesota basketball program is a train wreck right now.
I didn't see many, if any basketball posts here, so I figured there weren't many fans...Like you said, to each his own. I personally can't watch hockey on tv. Going to a game in person is a lot of fun, but I think it loses it's charm on tv. But that's just my opinion... :p

I like the Preds too! They're finally looking like a hockey team... they even beat the vaunted Avs in overtime last week!
Now, when were you in Toronto to touch the Stanley Cup? If this was before that series against the Avs, you know it's bad luck, don't you?

Like you said, to each his own. I personally can't watch hockey on tv. Going to a game in person is a lot of fun, but I think it loses it's charm on tv. But that's just my opinion... :p
Hockey loses a lot in the translation, but at least it's better than trying to watch BASEBALL on TV... what a waste of time!

I do know about the bad luck...I was there over New Year's Holiday this year. I figure it's safe because it's still regular season. Had I gone during the playoffs, I woulda never! Although, I'm beginning to think I might've helped prolong the current Devils slump...

How do you think the Avs beat the Red Wings the first year they were in CO? One of the Detroit reporters was caught touching the Cup, and it got all over Denver.... next thing you know, Claude Lemieux is rearranging Kris Draper's face on the inside of the bench boards, and WE'RE the ones beating the Florida Panthers 8-3 in the 2nd game of the finals! Gotta love superstitions.... ;)

The McCarty-Lemieux turtle incident is a MUCH better memory! :D

Well, lemieux's a schmo, there's no question about that... but same game, I think, was an EVEN better memory with Roy and Vernon going at it at Center Ice... remember?

Of course! That was definitely the best of the goalie tussles.
Vernon kicked his butt! ;)

As evidenced by the blood dripping from Mike's nose, no doubt.... :p

Hey! That schmo was the Conn Smythe winner in 1995...ahem...when the lowly Devils
swept the Wings in the Finals!
But yeah, he's the kind of guy you love when he's on your team, but he's an ass everywhere else!
...and that goalie fight was a classic!

I do think Vernon won that little tussle. Roy should have kept his mask on.
I remember that whole incident. It was the first game between the two teams following the Draper board chewing incident. I thought they were going to drag Lemieux onto the bench and pound the $h!t out of him. He was a mess when it was over. I don't think it would have gone that far if the Av's would have kept Chris Simon around. There's no way he would have just sat back and watched that happen.

Well, who knows... Simon certainly didn't have much to say to the Canucks in that same Stanley Cup year! It was that playoff series that ultimately decided his fate... he was never the same as an Av after that. He's gone on to bigger and better things, and more power to him, but I don't think he was ever going to be effective in Denver anymore. Too bad, too.
