Hey err'ybody. im new to the realbeer community. i post a little a bit over on beeradvocate but i mainly lurk, i wanted a place where i could not only talk a heck of a lot about beer but also about other things. As you can tell from my handle, i mostly post on this phish messageboard but i need some more beer talk in my life.
anyway
i bought 2 bottles of bitches brew about a month ago and drank one of them that night. i have a bottle left sitting in my dark pantry in my basement. now the temperature doesnt fluxuate any more then 5-10 degrees if that but its nowhere near its cellaring temp of 45 degrees down there. am i better off sticking it in my fridge where its about 34-37 degrees or leaving it where it is till im ready to drink it? im planning on enjoying it on halloween.

I have absolutely no idea. I hadn't realized that 65-70 degrees wasn't cool enough. I am storing some bourbon county stout right now-hopefully it will do alright. How is the Bitches Brew? I'm in Iowa so it's hard to find here.

Halloween's not that far away so we're not talking long time storage. I don't think your going to notice a difference either way. But if you want it to stay the freshest, than storing at refrigerator temps is the best. But if you want it to age, then cellar temps are the best.

im just cautious about the fridge because it has some random freezing spots and i dont want it to slightly freeze

bitches brew is a real delicious, drinkable russian imperial stout with an awesome array of aromas including some chocolate, espresso, and a hint of caramel and slight alcohol if you really wift it. it pours a super thick, deep dark brown which clings to the glass. chocolate, coffee, espresso right up front with some caramel/honey on the end. the coffee chocolate flavors are very delicate which is nice. highly recommend this.
it says its to be cellared around 45-50 but thats if your letting it sit for a year plus.
i looked up the porter you mentioned and it says to cellar it around the same temp fwiw

It won't hurt it to cellar it at about 45-50, no matter how long (or short) you intend to store it. It's also a very good serving temperature for impy stouts. It may improve with further aging, but that doesn't mean it has to be aged that long (as you noted, it tastes fine now), nor can you accelerate the aging with things like higher temperatures without other not as beneficial changes happening. Relax, don't worry, and enjoy a craft brew.

My brother in law is going to try to find a couple in Chicago this weekend. I have never been able to try any DFHead brews before so I'm pumped.
