Hello everyone, this is my first post here!

Anyways, I just started a bit of a journey... I'm trying to get a six-pack of beer from every state in the US.

As of today I'm only six beers in, and I'd love to get some recommendations from some experienced drinkers across the country.

Below is a list of every state, and the beer I've already purchased from the state. If you have a recommendation I'd really appreciate it if you could fill in the beer next to the state and re-post my list. Hopefully I can eventually get a good solid list together.

Thanks, and I look forward to reading your replies, other threads, and contributing to the discussions here.

I added two states, NY and MT. Some states could be tough as there are many fine beers available.

Wow, thanks so much everyone for the recommendations, this will get me off to a fantastic start for sure. Please continue posting if you come up with any more though! :D

About the Leinenhugel's... only reason I picked it up was because I was at the supermarket at the time and they had a very limited selection. Might just check for New Glarus next time I stop by my BevMo.

Also, what's the best way to get beer that isn't normally available in your home state? Will decent liquor stores order it for you if you request it? Is there a good website you can order it from?

Hawaii - Pipeline Porter, Kona Brewing

Had this for the first time tonight (or early morning depending on your time zone) and it was delicious.
The coffee was right on the money.

Good choice for a Hawaiian brew.

Oh god, don't remind me. For me, that one went down the drain fast...

I second the Nosferatu by Great Lakes though. Awesome stuff.

I don’t know if it’s too late to add...But, i can recommend beers from NJ and NH.
I live in NJ and have visited 5 NJ breweries. I’m within walking distance of two craft brewers.

NJ: Flying fish is, in my opinion, the most round NJ brewery that i have visited. The Belgian Style Dubbel is fantastic. Or, Exit 1 Bayshore Oyster Stout is very unique.
From River Horse Brewery, try either the Hop Hazard Pale Ale. Or, Triple Horse

I have gone camping in NH many times and always eat at Woodstock Brew Pub. My favorite the Pigs Ear Brown Stout

If you are willing to venture into canadian beers, I might suggest some from Quebec:

- La Vache Folle Double IPA Centennial
- La Vache Folle Imperial Milk Stout
- Dominus Vobiscum Triple
- Dieu du Ciel Rigor Mortis
- Dieu du Ciel Péché Mortel

Enjoy!

As a life-long CT resident, you've got a few choices. The Hooker Brewery, based in Hartford CT, http://www.hookerbeer.com/beers/, offers some nice beers (I like the Hop Meadow and the Doppelbock).

There's also the Old Burnside Brewery out of Hartford as well. Old Burnside started as an ice company but then started brewing when they discovered they had excellent water (they still sell ice). Their Ten Penny and Pennyweiz beers are pretty good, (the weizen is excellent in the summer) but they only come in growlers.

There are the SBC (Southport Brewing Company) locations, but they are kinda like chain micro breweries and I don't support them so I have no advice.

Lastly, there is Willimantic Brewing Company in Willimantic CT (near UConn Storrs), they are a small brewpub they offers above average food with awesome beers. The head brewer, dave, sometimes apprentices new brewers as part of the American Brewers Guild Apprenticeship Program. However, you have to buy the beer at the location in growlers.

The Hooker is likely the only beer you will find outside of CT that is brewed here (as far as I know) but it isn't as good at the WBC beer. If you're interested in getting the WBC stuff, maybe I can ship you out a growler or two of my favorite of their brews.

Their Double-Trouble DIPA is probably in my top 5 beers, it's got some like strawberry fruit notes going on, but the brewer told me there's no fruit in it, so I can't really explain that one. You never know, I might be the one brewing your sample if it gets brewed on Monday (I "volunteer" on mondays to get "professional" brewing experience...and maybe that double trouble IPA recipe).

EDIT: you should consider replacing SN with the Firestone Walker Brew Pub in Paso Robles CA. I love SN, probably one of my favs, but the Firestone-Walker showing at the GABF was so impressive this year I'd have to give it a try. And for NY you could consider Blue Point, I love their Toasted Lager in the fall, their hoptical illusion and rastafaRYE are really outstanding.

I'd have to say add anything from Willimantic Brewing Co. for CT. I've not found better beer brewed here in CT. There really aren't any other CT beers I've tried that stand up to the quality of WBC.

Hawaii - Kona Pipeline Porter

Is any Kona sold on the mainland from the Hawaii brewery? All that I've ever seen are from their sister Craft Brewer Alliance brewery, Redhook, in NH. Most of the west coast Kona is supposedly from other CBA breweries- Redhook or Widmer in the PNW.

They were in Denver but split and now the Denver side is called "Great Divide Brewery"

Great Divide is a totally separate brewery in Denver, no connection with Flying Dog -which still maintained their headquarters in Denver for a while after they moved all production to Maryland, but they moved that eventually, too (but their CEO stayed in CO- long commute (http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-180963889.html)). They also have a new "taproom" in Denver, not too far from Great Divide, in fact.

Massachusetts - Samuel Adams Noble Pils

Most Samuel Adams beers come from BBC's breweries in PA and Ohio. Certainly any of the regular 12 oz. bottles of the their standard beers do (only the "Barrel Room" series beers are from Boston, and those aren't very extensively distributed, IIRC).

Probably for Massachusetts Harpoon is a better choice, but some of their beer is also brewed in Vermont. Maybe try the Ipswich beers, which are now all from their home brewery Mercury, as I recall (previously some had been contract brewed).

if you want a brewery for mass. you could use the Berkshire Brewing Company, they're outta Deerfield Mass and produce some excellent brews.

Sorry for the misinformation, I was given that by a microbrewer at my local pub who was fresh of a brewery tour across the country.

Oh my. The New England states are being so severely misrepresented:

To begin with, Smuttynose (http://www.smuttynose.com/) is in New Hampshire (not Maine!!). The Maibock there is as good a choice as any, as is the Smuttonator (Dopplebock) and many of the other's in their "Big Beer Series".

To fill that void in Maine I would suggest looking at (and visiting) Allagash Brewing (http://www.allagash.com/) in Portland, arguably the best Belgian style brewers in the US. Try their "Black" which is a "Belgian style Stout" (as if that was ever a style) which is scrumptuous, or for a more traditional, non-traditional flavor go for their "Curieux" Ale, aged in oak bourbon barrels. Maybe the best beers on the east coast.

As for Vermont, no trip would be complete without a trip to the brewery established by Greg Noonan of home-brewing literary fame, in Burlington, "Vermont Pub and Brewery (http://www.vermontbrewery.com/about/remembering-greg-noonan)".

If you are going to choose a beer from Coastal Extreme Brewing Co. (aka Newport Storm) go for their current storm series beer, "Peter" (a nice spiced ale) over their flagship, amber ale.

In New York (not a part of New England, thank youvery much), I'd either go for something from Southampton brewing (whatever's on) or maybe better yet something from Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown. I'm fond of their Rare Vos in particular.

And although I am far from Wisconsin, I'd not taint my palette with the likes of anything from Lienenkugel. Yuck! New Glarus or even better anything from Sprecher is far better. I like their Black Bavarian when I'm there.

Dang, I've had one Great Divide beer and several of Flying Dog's brews (loved them all) and thought that was a cool way of coming up with a name for a brewery if they split. Oh well.

The OP is looking for "six-packs", tho' isn't he? (Doesn't sound like he's planning beer-cations). The Vermont Pub & Brewery doesn't bottle/distribute, do they?

Southampton's common 12 oz. bottled beers are contract-brewed primarily out of state. City Latrobe was doing them, Sly Fox (750ml's) and The Lion before that, but I notice at least one current one - their IPA - is being done now by Genesee- so that's a NY possibility.

I don't know- all the records from the era I have show that Great Divide Brewing Co. existed when Flying Dog was still strictly a brewpub in Aspen, CO, circa-mid-1990's.

Flying Dog did take over the physical location of another Denver brewery, Timberline, as well as taking over their original contract brewery, Broadway Brewing Co. in Denver, which it founded and co-owned with Wynkoop. Maybe one or both of those events are responsible for the confusion.

Denver's Flying Dog Brewing Co. announces relocation plans. (http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Denver%27s+Flying+Dog+Brewing+Co.+announces+reloca tion+plans.-a064058752)

Sorry, I didn't get that part (he was looking for bottles). If that's the case then those brewpubs are out.

For New York it would have to be something from Ommegang, though Brooklyn's Chocolate is a good choice too. Vermont's Magic Hat is a good bottled brewery. I've also heard good things about Rock Art, though I've never visited and we don't see much of it in NH. Long Trail has a few good ones too.

+1 on all counts, cept Southampton. I have had 3-4 of their brews and found them totally drinkable but nothing special. Ommegang on the other hand, is one of my top 5...all their brews are good but the Hennepin and Three Phils are my favs. Smuttynose...mmmmmm I love it, especially since they brew excellent american style beers without overwhelming piney hoppiness (check their IPA for a perfect example). And for Allagash I would choose the white since it is their most famous and well known beer, though I have heard great things about their corked 750's like Curieux or Interlude.
