Hello all; I'm new to this forum and have a few questions- hope this is the correct place:
I recently came across an old hot water heater (Ruud) that has a
42-gallon Monel tank. The tank is in excellent condition and already has two couplings near the bottom. I am thinking of cutting off the top and using it as a brew kettle. I know what Monel is made of (probably the best metal for boats in saltwater) and I know that whole breweries were made of Monel. I am curious if there are any health implications here.
Also, the tank is tall and narrow (about 17-inches in diameter and
42-inches tall)- how will this affect the boil (besides making stirring a bit difficult...)?
I am currently doing 10 gal all-grain batches in converted kegs...
TIA,
Gregg.
