San Jose, CA (May 4, 2010) “Dan Gordon, co-founder and Director of Brewing Operations for Gordon Biersch Brewing Company, is pleased to announce the debut of his brewery-fresh, German style beers now available in bottles and draft throughout Louisiana along with the release of recipes and recommended food parings featuring all Gordon Biersch beers in an eclectic array of regional cuisine.
Previously, Gordon Biersch's Märzen, Czech Style Pilsner, Blonde Bock, Hefeweizen and other seasonal beers had been available in Louisiana only to patrons of the popular Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in New Orleans. “Our on-site brewers in New Orleans have been pretty busy over the last seven years,” said Gordon, “I'm happy to finally send in some reinforcement.” The Gordon Biersch brewery-restaurant opened in 2003 at the Harrah’s casino on Poytrous Street.
Cold, fresh, liquid “reinforcement” comes from the state-of-the-art brewing and bottling facility in San Jose, California, where Gordon Biersch brews more than 3.1 million gallons of their award-winning beer annually. The brewery adheres to the strictest interpretation of the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516 whereby imported malted barley, hops from Bavaria are utilized, aged for 6 weeks (longer than any other craft beer in the country) and naturally carbonated. A very sophisticated yeast propagation system permits the brewery to use yeast only one time, which is also a world wide first.
For the first time in Louisiana, the famed lagers will be delivered by the bottle to major retailers throughout the state, including Rouse, Albertson's, and Breaux Mart. “This is an exciting day for us,” said Gordon, who is the first American in more than 40 years to graduate from the prestigious brewing engineering program at Germany's Technical University of Munich at Weihenstephan. Gordon is a passionate chef and has created some unique and delicious recipes incorporating the authentic Gordon Biersch German style beers. “The malty body and moderate hopping of our beers make them ideal for incorporating into stewed and braised dishes”. A fantastic Seafood Gumbo incorporates the Gordon Biersch Blonde Bock while the Märzen is featured in BBQ Ribs. The recipes can found at http://www.gordonbiersch.com/brewery .
