I just picked up the best of BYO that has 250 clones because I saw there is a Pliny clone. Has anyone made it or something like it? I am unable to easily get a hold of a bottle of PTE and figured this would be a way to try something like it.

I suspect it is the recipe that Vinnie gave out at a NHC a few years back
If so, I have brewed that recipe and done a side-by-side with the real thing. We could hardly tell the difference. Follow instructions to a T to get it right.

Great thanks BK!!
I am just waiting on the hops which should be here by the end of the week. I am hoping to brew Friday night. I shall follow the directions closely and as accurately as I possibly can!

I've got a Pliny clone resting on a bed of hops right now. Let me know how yours turns out.

So I am doing the extract plus grain version on the PTE clone and I put the info in my brew program and the numbers are off a bit. The program states that the final gravity will be 1.017, rather than 1.014. This is dropping the abv from 8% to 7.4%. Should I up the amount of extract to compensate or just leave it? When I up it my estimated fg rises to 1.019.
Btw, the program has been pretty close on og and fg for each of my brews so I don't think it is a miscalculation in the program, though I could be wrong.
Edit: I guess I really need to start considering the move to AG

With that beer, you can adjust the amount of corn sugar slightly to get your numbers right. Try 1.25# or even 1.5# sugar instead of a bit of your LME to work it out.
