I would like to know what the criteria is to be nominated to be on the list. I find it interesting that NYC or any other city in NY state did not make the list. Why would Boston, Philadelphia, and Asheville, NC(???) make the list and not NYC? I would have to think the the beer selection is as good in NY as in any of the other cities on the list. I think there are a couple other NY cities that might be worthy as well.

My thoughts on reasoning:
1. Boston: Todd and Jason...nothing to do with the actual beer selection, just marketing. :(
2. Philadelphia: ABSOLUTELY belongs on the list. Spend a 3-day weekend there with Beermapping.com for reference and you'll see what I mean...after all, Monk's Cafe, Eulogy, Standard Tap...this list just goes on and on.
3. Why no NYC? Probably ignorance. NYC is known for many other things, but not so much beer, undeservedly (Blind Tiger, Ginger Man, . Probably needs a little more marketing push.
4. why no additional NY state locations? Simple, anyone who lives more than 2 states away from NY doesn't know there ARE any other cities in NY State. :p
5. Asheville? All I can say is WTF? I don't get that one. They were joint winners, so I must be missing something here. Perhaps a trip is in order?
6. Atlanta? Perhaps that is the only city in the south people in Oregon could think of?
7. St. Louis? Really? Pandering to the big boys? It is certainly no Craft Beer wasteland, but Top Beer City?
8. Denver, Fort Collins AND Boulder listed separately? That one seems to be an obvious intent to divide the likely winning region into small enough pieces to make sure they don't win. Did they forget Golden? ;)
9. What is missing? How about Austin? Cincinnati? Dallas/FW? Cleveland? Eugene? Vegas? LA? Madison?

Of course, this seems to be listed only on an Oregon Blog, so how "true" can the results be?

To me, answering from the presented choices is a real toss up between the front range and the greater Philly region. I love all there is to the front range, but Philly is so much closer to me.

At least Seattle is up! Seattle turned me on to great beer so it got my vote!

I know that I could do that. I am interested in why some cities made the list while others were regulated to other. There must have been some sort of standard that qualified a city to be named as opposed to having to be written in. What was that standard?

Maybe they went by the top cities last year...I don't know.

Good idea, but looking at the poll results, I don't see any added cities. All I see is one overall category "Other" which adds to a single percentage. That means city X could get 50% of the total votes, but would only show as part of the total "Other" vote.

beerking, Asheville is worth a visit. Especially if you count the immediate surrounding area where there are a bunch of breweries. Good beer bars, too. Not ahead of Philly, though. They win on the east cost, AFAIC

I don't see Atlanta or St. Louis belonging there before NY, but NYC is not a really beery place despite some amazing Manhattan bars like Blind Tiger, and most of Brooklyn. Maybe it has to do with brewery/brewpub count, and manhattan only has 1 brewery/brewpub when you subtract the Heartland Tied Houses.

As for missing, I'd say San Diego, and where's the love for DC? Lots of beery things there...

One way or another, it seems Asheville is somewhere I need to check out. I have heard good things about that city from several folks. I am not real big on heading any further south than I already am for time off though. ;)

As for NYC, I spent some time there about 2 years ago, and agree, but if you get some good info and know where to look, it can be well worth it.

DC? Yeah, definitely underrated by most folks these days? After all, how many other cities can boast Savor once a year (answer, ZERO, and it is only 11 days away!)?

SD is a bit OVERrated, IMHO. Great town, and some HUGE winning locations (esp. Lost Abbey and Stone), but too hard to get around and too spread out to make it easy to do much beer site-seeing.

When it comes to NY state, forget the Big Apple. I find that central NY has a great beer culture. There are a number of breweries, brewpubs, and wonderful beer bars to visit. Any one coming this way and wants a tour o0r travel suggestions, I will see what I can do.

Good point on the travel around SD. It was a birthday trip and my my DD'd during the afternoons of travel throughout the county, so i didn't notice too much! :D

And wort, as for Central NY, I agree that the ride along 90 from Albany to Buffalo has some worthy stops, and Ommegangs sittin' down there in the middle of it all, but that'd be one big daytrip to see it all! 'Cuse is still my fave for the cities along the thruway. nothing beats an afternoon stop at Middle Ages and lunch at Dinosaur.
