I'm trying to whip up a recipe based on a friend's request for something like Magic Hat's Odd Notion. I'm not sure how this will turn out, so I thought I'd ask for some feedback.

If you haven't had it, it's "a hybrid of pale ale and American-style wheat" so I poked a bit in the recipe forums here and this is what I came up with:

Grain
0.75 lbs. American 2-row
0.75 lbs. White Wheat Malt
0.25 lbs. 2-Row Carapils® Malt
0.25 lbs. 2-Row Caramel Malt 10L
Extract
3 lbs. Dry Wheat
3 lbs. Dry Extra Light
Hops
1 oz. Northern Brewer (Pellets, 8.00 %AA) boiled 60 min.
1.5 oz. Amarillo (Pellets, 8.50 %AA) boiled 15 min.
0.5 oz. Amarillo (Pellets, 8.50 %AA) boiled 1 min.
Yeast
White Labs WLP320 American Hefeweizen Ale

BeerTools sez:
OG = 1.066
FG = 1.014
ABV = 6.9%
Color = 8.12 SRM
Bitterness = 44.7 IBU

If anyone has any feedback, I'd surely appreciate it. Even if it's general recipe advice and not Odd Notion specific.

I like the recipe but I have no idea what it will turn out to be. I think the Carapils is wasted with all that wheat in there, and I would probably double the C10.

Thanks, Corky. I hadn't thought about the carapils being wasted. In light of that, I'll probably axe it. I don't know if I'll double the crystal, though. I don't want it too dark. My LHBS probably won't have 10L anyways - might have to do 1/4 # of the 20L instead.

I also might cut back on the IBUs by switching up the hops. Maybe some Mt. Hood or Cascade.

Probably won't brew this one for another 2 weeks, so I'll let the recipe fester in my brain for a bit longer.

Brewing tomorrow. Same recipe as above except I cut out the carapils. I'm excited to see how this one turns out. Don't know if it will be anything like the Odd Notion (which I haven't had but will sample while brewing) but it should be a fun experiment nonetheless.
