not sure but i would add more 2-row and less oats but if not add some rice hulls for the mash. Or just use the gold LME.

Well i called the store i ordered the Oat Malt from and they said it was suitable to substitute for pale malt up to 100% for a "silky" change of pace. They also told me that it will self convert, So who knows maybe ill do a S.M.A.S.H Ale With oat Malt.Might make for a unique session ale. Maybe Toast/roast 1/2 lb Oat Malt in the oven and use 7lbs Oat malt Un-toasted. It would Appear i have some time to decide as brewchic has already "called Dibs" on using my Primary for her honey wheat stout.

Yeah, your biggest problem is the lack of any significant quantity of a typical base malt. I'd go the whiskey tango foxtrot route and do the oat beer. Set your mill tight, as the oat grains are thinner than barley.

You don't need rice hulls when using oat Malt it has a TON of husk material, this isn't flaked oats this is the "real" whole oat kernel as it comes from the plant, just malted.

Just curious... How did you get an odd mix of malt like that?

Excellent question. I tend to buy more specialty malts than I end up using in a given time frame, but that's such a strange mix, especially to have no malted barley.

I planed it that way. Oat malt can be used as a base malt and i wanted to experiment with it. Sure you can buy a dozen commercial Stouts that have Oats in them but can you think of ONE made with Oats as the Base Malt? When i brew, other than Stouts and porters and even those, i try to brew something i cant buy a commercial example of anywhere. That is how i ended up with the mix of grains have. And thanks to a Great mom that bought me the rest of the parts my mash tun and hot water tun are finished WAY before i thought they would be.So i am itching to brew an all grain batch!

How long did it take to get your water to target temp? How long did you mash for?
Plus what cooling method do you use?
I'm mashing now, and heating up my sparge water.
just doughed in my cereal mash.

Well I have two round igloo coolers so when i heated my mash water, after i did my Dough in i heated my Sparge water to 200 and dumped it in the second cooler, and put the lid on. I mashed for 1 hour and 15 mins cause i was on a game so i ran a bit over.I have a immersion Chiller, BEST THING I EVER BOUGHT!
And i hit 64.63% efficiency the first run out so i need to redo my Mash tun, that is a lot lower than i wanted it to be. Sg 1.055.

64% isn't optimal but its not bad first AG. I was at 58% my first time. Man i wish i had an immersion chiller.

Well i guess ill just have to be happy with it for now,BUT it will get fixed! AND i have proven to myself that i can do all grain, EVEN if i did it using non-standard malts. Its time to go pull a mug of my Heather Ale that i am IFFY on and see if it is good(no hops) and its much lighter than my standard brew but the wheat stout isn't carbed up yet!

65% is not bad, but efficiency is not the real goal here. The goal is to produce a fermentable wort. I can mash too hot and get a very high OG(better apparent efficiency), but I'm going to end up with a lot of unfermentable sugars and a very high FG.

It was nasty sadly, MASSIVE cider off flavor.
