Please consider an impasse with No. 2 Son and I: As we often have more brews on hand than our dedicated fridge out in the garage can handle, I had simply stored them beside it. Our other alternative is inside the house where however there's less room

His argument favors the house, where temperature is more nearly constant; whereas--except in midsummer--I favor the garage where it stays cooler. Given that storage in either location would seldom exceed a couple of months, can anyone assert with some assurance that one would be significantly better than the other

if they are conditioning I think you'd want to keep them on the warmer side (obviously not hot) but for long-term storage of bigger beers, then I'd go with cooler

Thank you Hark but I'm afraid I wasn't entirely clear. These brews are not home-brew but commercial bottled beverages

For commercial beers, the answer is very much cooler. Chemical reactions, including the oxidation reactions that occur in beer to make it go bad with age, occur twice as fast for every 10*F higher storage temp.
That means, a beer that will last 4 weeks at 75*F will last 8 weeks at 65*F and 16 weeks at 55*F.
