Just moved a bed for a friend and was given a case of Alaskan Amber. THIS BEER IS SHIT. Every beer they make is such a joke. I wish they didn't drag down the alaska name. why would anyone give me this crap.

I've liked the few beers I've had from Alaskan. The Amber isn't all that special but I wouldn't call it shit. The IPA was good as was the Winter Ale.

The Smoked Porter they make was hard for me to stomach.
I'm not into the smoke.

I LOVED the Smoked Porter! I get a few bottles every year. And I enjoy Alaskan's other offerings as well. I have a bottle of the Winter Ale stashed away for a nice cold night next winter.

Use the beer for trades if you don't like it - I bet there are lots of folks here on RB that would like to sample it.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry, but this is ignorant. Fear not, beeradvocate has spot for you on their forums.

And just to embarrass you more, I'll offer this:

DENVER, Colo. – Alaskan Brewing Co. won four medals for quality on Saturday at the 27th annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver, Colorado. This is the most GABF medals won by Alaskan in a single year, adding to the brewery’s status as the among the most award-winning craft breweries in the history of the country’s most prestigious festival.

Agree i think someone has a personal grudge.

from the article With the four medals won at this year’s GABF, Alaskan Brewing has collected 23 regional, national and international awards so far in 2008, including four awards from the World Beer Cup, considered the “Olympics of Beer.”

I have one of the two bottles left that I first purchased.
They say it "ages" well so that's what I'm doing.

But for how long?
I've read that the smoke mellows out after a few years but gets more intense if you keep it longer.

I want the mellow.

Amber, you are a bland and uninspired conCOCKtion, despite your popular, slutty appeal and your immensely easy access. Although i do get my shots regularly, I am afraid I will catch Alaskan King Crabs from your excessive foam. The hooches in the midwest and along the eastern seaboard are clearly so illprepared, simple, homely, and inferior; that tools, dicks, cocksuckers, motherfuckers, malt-hounds, bud, beast, keystone ice, beast ice suckers, and millwalkees beast ice suckers have been wooed by the sluttiest and shittiest of our many assorted alaskan breweries. These other breweries offer exquisite product to shame the whorish tastes of the Alaskan brewery from Seattle.
For those hop-humpers creaming themselves over all things AK, next time you go to mexico make sure you ask for Corona, Fosters in Australia, and Coors in Colorado. We all love coors right, all the awards that they have won...
Taste these Rockies! Yeah.
God Bless,

I have never laughed so hard in my life.

Note to the OP :: Get the fuck out of Alaska while you still have a chance.
I'm worried about you.

If you want the mellow, go buy Stone Smoked Porter - another very excellent brew, and might be more suited to your tastes. Send me or beerking your Alaskan Smoked stash! ;)

Me either. No wonder steveh doesn't come back here much.

OTOH, he's apparently been spotted over at BA, so who knows. (HEY, Joshua - THERE'S the beer site for you! That last diatribe is PERFECT for BeerAdvocate's forums!)

Nobody is forcing you to drink it, just inappropriate I think you had a little to much to drink maybe...maybe those crabs got to your head?

Beats me. Wondering if this kind of stuff is the beginning of the end myself.

Damn shame. I used to love coming here, and every day I recognize it a little less.

I think the general consensus here is this. You can say you feel it is a bad beer without bashing, being profane, vulgar and rude to others on this site and about the beer in general. Your message of it being a bad beer would come across much better if you tried to be a bit professional about WHY you didn't like it instead of just bashing it.Look at it as a Beer judge would, Give us a fair honest break down of the beer, explain why it is a bad example of the style, and then maybe people will take you seriously.

I am not defending the amber, i have never tried it, so you could very well be right, it could be the worst amber beer ever made, but just coming out sounding like a jerk, being sarcastic isn't going to convince me that you can be trusted as someone to judge the quality of the beer. I have tried there smoked porter and i personally found it to be amazing, but i am no beer judge i just know i liked how it looked smelled and tasted.

Basically, its like my grandma used to say "you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar".

Josh,
Despite your time on this forum, you have obviously missed the point, and tone of this entire community. even the title of your initial post of this thread is obviously intended to insult and inflame members here. Your later post, rampant with profanity and direct insults is clearly out of line on ANY reasonable forum, and especially this one.
As for Alaskan beers, you base your rant on what appears to be a single tasting, of a single beer from this brewery, and extrapolate your neanderthal conclusions to the entire brewery and all their beers.
The particular beer you refer to is not only a well made beer, but is considered a standard example of the Northern German Altbier Style in the Beer Judge Certification Program Style Guidelines (http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style07.php). How many fresh examples of this style have you had? Have you been to Germany to try a fresh sample of DAB Traditional, Hannen Alt, or Schwelmer Alt? On what do you base your oh so critical, but completely non-constructive criticism of this beer? I can guarantee you that the authors of the style guidelines have done just that before determining whether this beer fits as a standard.
As for your question "Who are you people any way I have never seen you her till now", take a look at who has been responding to you. You obviously haven't been paying any attention since you first joined in Nov 2006. Your 100 posts seem to have been posts only, with little if any reading. Fretlessman71 has 10,420 post since April 2003, and Vance71975 has been one of the more prolific posters in the last year since he joined.

Take the advice of numerous others here, and get off this board, before the moderators remove you. I'm sure the crowd on the forum at BA will welcome your sophomoric postings.

Since we created the Real Beer discussion boards we've always relied on the members to keep the chatter chatter civil. In other words deleting the spam both otherwise letting it belong to the members.

So it is with apologies that this thread is now locked.

Sorry.
