Big Flavor Despite Hard Times:
Colorado Continues to Embrace Unique Beers

Boulder, CO - Avery Brewing Company chose February of 2009 to launch their Barrel-Aged Series , which is an ongoing series of high end, small-batch, "one-and-done" craft beers. While most would assume that the timing of such a release--of pricey beer when many folks are watching their wallets--would spell disaster, the Barrel-Aged Series from Avery Brewing Co. and other ultra-high-end brews from across Colorado saw tremendous success in 2009.

According to Adam Avery, President and Brewmaster of Avery Brewing Company, the market for craft brewed beer continues to evolve every year, with new customers coming into the fold and existing customers becoming more adventurous and open minded in their perception of beer. "This evolution within the market has allowed us to be even more daring with the beers that we release and continue to push the envelope" Avery said. "Our entire Barrel-Aged Series never could have been financially feasible even 6 or 8 years ago, the market simply wasn't there." He continued, "It is beer lovers right in our backyard of Boulder and the Front Range that are embracing these beers and making it economical for us to produce them. I think it speaks volumes about the culture in Colorado and the direction we are headed."

Black Tot Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, No. 3 in the Avery Barrel-Aged Series will release on Friday, January 15th at the brewery in Boulder. Like all other releases in the Barrel-Aged Series, Black Tot is of limited availability with only 315 cases produced.

Black Tot is an Imperial Oatmeal Stout aged in Gosling's Old Rum Barrels. It features huge, chewy and endlessly deep flavors of roasted dark malts, sweet rum, espresso and more subtle elements of toffee, molasses and vanilla. Initial sips are bold and intense, but new flavors burst and slide into the milieu as the beer warms, drawing you deeper into the stormy heart of this most dark and tumultuous brew. Black Tot demands to be poured into your favorite glass to be pondered and appreciated. We think you'll want more than just one tot!

Suggested retail is $8.00 per 12oz. bottle.

Cerasus, a 100% brettanomyces fermented wild ale with sour cherries, is No. 4 in the Barrel Aged Series from Avery Brewing Co., and is on schedule to release in late Spring 2010 from the brewery in Boulder.

Established in 1993, Avery Brewing Company has developed a reputation as being one of the most daring and forward-looking breweries in the nation. They are the brewers of Avery IPA, The Maharaja Imperial IPA, White Rascal Belgian Wheat Ale, Mephistopheles' Stout and eighteen other year-round and seasonal beers.
