Can someeone help me

I have some old Scotish Export Ale Malt in a can. Don't know much about it. Would like to find/or get some infomation on it if I could. Or maybe a recipe for it.
The trade name is Highlander, it's a Sctish Export Ale, company Brewmasters Systems Ltd, Canada in Endinburgh Scotland. That is whats on the can.
Also can the malt be to old if the can has not been open.
I hope someone can help me with this can of malt extract or do I dumpit

Thank you

I would dump it. Your beer will probably taste like cardboard. But Scottish Export usually refers to an IPA-like beer. I don't know why. If you do use, it would probably be a good idea to find out if its hopped before you add hops. Unless its labeled you'll just have to taste it. Dissolve it in some hot water, and if it tasted sweet and bitter, and doesn't remind you of cardboard, its probably ok to make beer with. If its just sweet, add some hops. If its a three pound can, add like 3 lbs of dry malt extract, or combine it with another can of malt extract.

I actually make a hobby out of buying cans of malt extract, covering the labels and then once I've made the beer, uncovering the labels to found out what on earth I put into it. Its actually not very interesting, a lot of malt extract kits are substantially similar. Its more fun to buy mystery grains and mash them.

It can be too old...too long in the can will impart a metallic edge to the flavor of the extract. Still, the advice in the previous reply is valid: if it's old, it probably won't poison you [this is not to be construed as advice], but the flavor will have been affected. Others have said that old malt extract can taste dusty, musty, or sour. I wouldn't want to spend the effort making beer out of it if it weren't in good shape; do taste or at least smell it thoroughly first.
