How do you like your beer?

Depends on the style. I wouldn't want a very hoppy Oktoberfest, bock, or scotch ale. A pale ale or an IPA, now that's a different story... bring on the hops.

I agree that style is a major factor in deciding what's right for the beer, but I have NEVER been scared off by an overly hoppy beer. As long as it's not ALL hops, I'm good. I've had beer that tasted like they forgot to put in the malt and decided to make hop soda!

Certainly would be a matter of which beer I am drinking at the moment. I like some beers with a good malt character, but for the most part I am a lupomaniac and go straight for the beers with a lot of hop character, but it still has to have some sort of balance otherwise it is like drinking straight alum.

Definitely depends on style.

i love em hoppy! but i agree it depends on the syle.
i like malty as well, the yulesmith is an excellent brew . starts out with an onrush of fresh floral hops and finishes with a sweet malty goodness. thats the way i like em!

I put more malt than hop, just a general rule that's my preference. Ideally I like a good balance, as I'm sure most do, but I lean to the malty camp. I do enjoy many very hopped beers, Tupper's Hop Pocket or Victory's Hop Devil are two of my favorite tippels and I'll drink plenty of the goodness of the Pacfic Northwest, but I do find that many American brewers have seemed to lose their minds when it comes to humulus lupus . It seems like many are trying to push the envelope of bitterness more because they can then with any concern for actual taste.

With many of my fellow beer enthusiasts, this disuccsion usually dovetails into my pet peeve about the relative lack of good "session" beers around my parts.

Welcome MeridianFC. I like you prefer a balance but maybe a slight edge to the hop side. Well maybe a bit more than a slight edge. I enjoy IPA and ESB styles the most as far as American beer goes. As for decent session beers, I have to travel to Britian for any cask mild.

Good one Danno! I see those highly hopped beers are still winning in a big way in this poll. No suprise I guess.

I LOVE malt. That flavor is definitely one of my favorite flavors in the world; from malt syrup to single malts, I love it.

That said, I find that the more beer I drink (and I try to drink more all the time;) the more I'm coming to appreciate the complexities of the different hops, and what they do for different beers.

[edit note: cast comes off tomorrow, so I'm hoping this will take care of some of the typos. sheesh]

sometimes I like it hoppy...I like the dogfish head 60 min...and I really like the 90 min...but the 120 min..well ...last time I had it I drank 4 bottle as a night cap.mmm

what I really like is mixing a hoppy ale with guinness..to me guinness can be mixed with anything....the dry..crisp flavor o guinness smooths out any rough hopped ale...

Once on a lark I mixed a guinness with a brooklyn black choco stout....It was wonderful.....

The only problem I have with hoppy ipa's...is I suffer from gurd....if it wasnt for tums n zantac....I wouldnt be able to drink.....as the next day I am poopin acid....[ too much info , please forgive]

Let's just say...Double Bastard is a good start :D

I tend to gravitate towards big, whether that be hoppy or malty; if it's both...all the better.

However, I also appreciate the delicate balance of a fine pilsner and the sweet-tart balance of a nice Belgian...guess I just love beer!!
