St. Niklaas Visits Brewery Ommegang on Saturday, December 12, 2009 from noon until 3 pm.

(COOPERSTOWN) Ommegang's annual holiday party includes a visit from St. Niklaas, arriving by Belgian draft horse-drawn wagon − or by sled, if there is enough snow.
This is first and foremost a family event. St. Niklaas will arrive − accompanied by Black Peter − welcome the children, tell them Belgian Christmas stories, lead them in singing, and give out small gifts of Belgian cookies and candies. There will be festive holiday decorations, wagon or sleigh rides for all, music by Bells and Motley (a group playing seasonal and other music on acoustic medieval instruments), cookies, Clementines, Belgian chocolates, and hot chocolate for all, and of course, beer tasting for the adults. For those wanting greater sustenance, Farm to Hearth will sell their wood-fired flatbreads made with organic flours and grains and locally grown organic produce.
Ommegang is open from noon until 5 p.m. St. Niklaas arrives at noon and leaves at 3 pm. (He’s a busy old elf this time of year.) There is no admission fee and all are welcome. Free tours and beer tastings for adults will continue all afternoon. The brewery store is also open from noon until 5 pm for sales of beer, glassware, wearables and many other items for delightful holiday gifts.
Brewery Ommegang opened in 1997 to craft-brew fine Belgian-style ales. The brewery creates five ales year-round as well as a range of seasonal and specialty ales. The beers have won national following by connoisseurs of fine beer and are distributed in over 40 states. Ommegang production and sales continue to grow rapidly and the company is in the process of significant physical expansion to meet growing demand. The brewery is located on a 136-acre farmstead in Cooperstown, New York and offers free daily tours and tastings, as well as a well-stocked brewery store and an online store. Ommegang is open every day of the year except for Christmas Eve day, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, and New Year’s Day.
