I am new to brewing and have been making extract kits from Listermans.com. Usually an IPA or something similar. My wife and I both like the results other than that the beer seems a touch to sweet. Do any of you have any recommendations on how I can make it less sweet?

This (http://www.listermann.com/Store/Details.asp?ID=459)is the recipe I typically use. Listermans makes the malt. Sorry I am pretty new to this and would like to learn to manipulate the finished product a bit better.

Hmm. What yeast comes with it, and are you making a starter with it? Also where is it fermenting, in your garage? And whats the average temp? Buy a hydrometer and take readings, thats like the first "toy" you should get...

Sounds like it's underattenuated and most likely estery (fruity) too.
How long do you typically leave the beer in the fermenter? At what temperature do you ferment?

Where do you live? (Ohio?) Water chemistry can play a big part on the finished product, especially for IPAs.
HarkJohnny, do you treat the water so your IPAs don't taste "flabby"?

If it is extract only, it could be the extract itself...having too many unfermentable sugars
