This may sound like a stupid question, but due to the heightened security around airports over the holidays, I have to ask it. I want to bring some Dogfish Head home for the holidays for my family to try it, since it's not available in their area (NC). First off, is it illegal to transport alcohol from Mass. to NC? If not, which I assume it isn't, should I carry the four packs through security or pack them in my suit case and check them?

Welcome to the boards!
You ought to be able to carry them through security with no problem. Might be a good idea to double check with the airlines, though, now that we're on Orange Alert as of yesterday - the rules might have changed. Maybe you could bring your reciept with you to show that you had just purchased your beer and it's really NOT a bomb or something...?

I don't know why the heightened security should preclude items like beer from being brought onto planes. I'm all for protection but pretty soon we'll be handed a disposable paper gown to fly with.
In all seriousness, there are no guarantees, but I've flown with beer several times since 9/11 with no hassles whatsoever. I've yet to encounter anyone on beer forum boards that has had a big problem. There's a first time for everything but I'd pack 'em in your carry on....and stop looking suspicious - keep those shifty eyes staring straight ahead! :D
Cheers and welcome!

Thanks,
I'll try to keep the shiftiness down to a minimum. I have also found that checking with the airlines is somewhat futile. They will most likely tell you to keep all packages at home or ship them prior to your trip. Basically, the less items they have to deal with, the better. Good site to view - I hope everyone has an excellent holiday.

I have flown many times with beer. I recommend bringing it in your carry on items. I have had bottles leak in the checked suitcase. I guess maybe the cargo area is not pressurized. Let us know how it went when you return and welcome to the board.

There was another thread on this topic. It seems airline travel is not to diffcult. Yet, if you were to drive those beers, chances are you would be breaking laws. It is crazy but true.
just took a case of beer through the airport over thanksgiving visiting my fiancee. the only problem? carrying a case of beer and a laptop! that and the rather greedy looks given to me by my fellow travellers ;)

b3s - you may have hit upon a good idea to help bring the Coors Light crowd over from the dark side to the good. I can see myself going threw the security check and getting stopped. Offering up 1-2 bottles of Dogfish to the guard could probably do the trick in getting me through to the Gate. Then again, it could land my butt in airport jail as well.
lol...after i checked in at DIA and was walking to the gestapo, err, security gate, the lady said "i'm sorry sir, i'm gonna have to confiscate that" -- i said "you can have my beer when you pry it from my cold dead hands, i special brewed this for my lady!". we both had a chuckle.
then, as i was disembarking the plane, the stewardess said "you had beer! did you bring enough for the class?"
:D
