Hines Ward was nominated to the Pro-bowl. While "anything goes" in this section, I normally don't talk football here, but I make an exception with this......

Hines Ward is my favorite football player. I am biased towards Ward because I am a Steeler fan, but the honest truth is if he played on any other team and I were exposed enough to him to see what he does on the field, he would still be my favorite player.
Hines doesn't make cell-phone calls in the endzone and even rarely spikes the ball after a TD catch. He is the best blocking receiver in the league and flashes just as big of a smile after catching a five yard pass for a first down, as he does for a forty yard TD pass.
Ward is the least paid Pro-Bowl receiver out of the bunch, yet he has never complained about his salary. I don't really know how to relate Hines Ward with beer, but I can say he is an elite player with a humble attitude. Those two qualities are rare in major sports today.

And a toast to the Detroit Lions for yet another season well done! A new NFL record set today for most consecutive road losses. They have definitely helped me along with the love of beer! :)

I, too, will raise a pint of homebrew to Mr. Hines Ward. I am a Steelers fan, as well, and, despite the team's troubles this season, Hines Ward is still a class act and one hell of a WR. Hopefully, the draft will go well for the balck and gold this year.;)

Ward is a super classy guy and represents The Steelers (and the NFL for that matter) well. I screamed DB DB DB for te last few drafts, but Townsend has played very well in his shift to corner. I was worried he would struggle simply because he is small not due to lack of talent, but I have been very surprised with him. The Steelers need linemen. The line finally gelled at the end of the season now that they are out of play-off contention, but depth is needed there desperately. A DE wouldn't hurt either.

I hate the Steelers as I'm a Pats fan, but cheers for having something to celebrate this season ;) . Ward is a tough guy who makes the most of his abilities. Personally, I can't stand the ProBowl. It's the most ridiculous of all the All-Star games. Played after the season (including the SuperBowl) is over - zero interest for most fans!

That and the fact that the Pats, with the best record in football, have only 2 players going. Forget the superstars. Give me a "team first" bunch of guys any day. GO PATS!

Cheers!

I had read where he issued an apology to Suzy Kolber today for saying he wanted to kiss her, but hadn't seen or heard it. I listened to the audio from the link you posted and oh, my Ms. Kolber handled herself very well! Pretty obvious that he was ripped. His effort to speak properly is comical. Then he just looses it and says, "Ih whannya khiss yooo". Too funny. I've seen Ms. Kolber, and I'd like to kiss her too, but I wouldn't tell her that on the air in that fashion! :D

I'm going to also give props to one Mr Brett Favre; he played a game 24 hours after the sudden death of his father (on his family's insistance) and absolutely tore up the Oakland Raider defense...nearly 320 yards passing in the first half alone.
Incredible tribute to his father, who was also his high school coach. It was just as his dad would have wanted it to be.

Ha ha ha yeah The Pats and Steelers have had some brawls. The Pats have a fine team and a great coach.

Glad you do respect Ward. He has a huge heart and always gives 100%.

I feel the same way as you about the Pro-bowl, but at the same time, most players that make the Pro-bowl worked very hard to get that nod.

I think the Pats will do well in the play-offs, but both Tennessee and Indy are pretty solid as well.

I agree some form of recognition is necessary. These guys put in a ton of hours, off season training, time away from family, etc. and should be recognized. Not that a few $100,000 or million isn't enough, but players take a lot of abuse from the fans & media and a little praise/pat on the back is nice now and then. I still think the game is a joke. I'll bet most players would be satisfied simply being voted among the best of the league that year. Then again, maybe not. Some guys need a stage and spotlight - but not Mr. Ward and many other classy players (Barry Sanders comes immediately to mind).

Looks like we'll get another battle with Tennessee. Should be a good one this weekend.

Cheers!
