I'm having a Goose Island Christmas as I type and I have to say
I'm not overly impressed;nothing special this year. I'll have what's left in the fridge and buy something else next time, maybe Pyramid Snow Cap. ;)

Welcome to the board. Have you had the Snowcap this year? Usually a good beer.

DON'T SAY THAT! I'm trading some GI Christmas to a friend! Oh well... it's what he wanted. Have you had the Great Lakes Christmas this year yet?

Oh yeah... welcome to the boards! The more the merrier!

The G.I. Christmas is a pretty standard Brown Ale from the bottle (overly roasty, IMO), but on tap it's very flavorful and much smoother.

PS - welcome aboard!

The Goose Island is near the top of the Holiday beers I have had this year; the Great Lakes ale is good in itself, but does not really distinguish itself as a "Christmas" beer. I prefer the Goose Island (all of mine were sampled from bottles)

The Anchor OSA is in a class of it's own, although I think it would be best with some aging...the finishing bitterness could stand a little mellowing, at least for my taste.

Haven't been able to find the Three Floyds or Rogue X-mas beers yet, still working on my local paint store who carries many of their other varieties.

BTW...I bought some New Holland "Dragons Milk"..very unique beer: Pitch black, it is a 10% ABV strong ale aged in oak whiskey casks, giving it a slight bourbon flavor. I also detected a bit of spice, seemed like nutmeg to me. Overall fairly sweet, but hopped enough not to be "sugary".

I bought a six of Sam adams Winter Lager this year and really enjoyed it. Less the Cherry Wheat, I think SA brews are pretty mediocre, but I was pleasantly suroprised with the Winter Lager. I tried Anchor's Christmas Ale and Dogwood Winter Ale (Atlanta micro) and they were both a bit heavily spiced for me. I also tried one other so far this season, but can't emember what it was. : (
Anyway, if there is someone here like me that overlooked the SA Winter Lager because they aren't crazy about most of their brews might be pleasantly surprised with this one. I know I was.
