Just wondering if you would be able to add the cookies to the mash? Would you end up with a huge mess in your MT? Possibly you could end up with a oreo stout...don't have to worry about the crumbs. :) This is how I got it figured...add 1 or 2 packages of oreos just before you sparge, say like 10 min, and stir them into the mash. Of course the amount of fermentables may push a regular stout into the imperial range, but then again maybe not. Just sumpthin I had rattling around in my head today.
Thought I'd waste my 200th post on a stupid question! :-D

There are a lot of preservatives in Oreos, would that make a difference?

A very hoppy 200th Gunnut!
I've never heard of Oreos in beer other than eating them with Guinnes XS. My WIFE would love to know if it works!
HERE'S a thought... Oreos are basically cocoa, graham (I think that's what gives them their distinctive taste), and cream... now, just how do you make graham flour? If flour comes from wheat and barley just like malt, is there a way you could combine the process and come up with a "graham malt"?
I did a quick search for homemade oreo recipes and could only find ingrediants that call for cake mixes. I would think you might have a problem with the additives and preservatives in such box mixes. It sounds like a great idea. I await with anticipation a recipe that will work.

if you've got a glass gallon jug, rack some stout into there from your primary and add some crushed oreos. There should be enough yeast in the secondary to continue to ferment, plus in case it's a disaster, you're not wrecking 5 gallons of stout...
nice experiment, though... I really like Young's Double Chocolate Stout...

Was just told on another board that it won't work with Oreo's. The added fermentables would thin the beer out and wouldn't add any flavor :( ...now here's a thought......Oreo=Chocolate+Vanila Cream filling....maybe you could add coco powder or bakers chocolate and a vanilla bean or two? Might work.

My 10 of a wife just had an idea (see A beer site to enjoy! (http://www.realbeer.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1769) if you want to know what I'm up to): Left Hand makes a Milk Stout; Brooklyn makes a Black Chocolate Stout. What would happen if someone made a Double Milk Chocolate Stout? Is this a viable idea?

About 3 years ago I made a chocolate milk stout. I believe I added 3/4 lb. of lactose powder & 2 squares of semi-sweet baker's chocolate. It was pretty good, but I could not detect any chocolate flavor---either it wasn't supposed to come through, or I did not add enough. If I had the exact recipe right now I would post it. If you can wait a day or two, fretless, let me try to find it. By the way, what's the status of our little deal in the making?
Drink hearty!!!
