My new kegging system should be ready to go tonight. I have two cornelius kegs, gas-in line, liquid out line, cobrahead tap, clamps etc. to be picked up from the post office, and a 20 lb. CO2 tank from a local shop supply store. The kegs were pressure tested with all new gaskets by the good people at Paddockwood, so I should have few problems... I hope.

I've been worrying about this incessantly for the past few weeks. I feel like fretlessman. The worst part is that I have two finished beers in the carboys ready for new years eve - If the thing works out ok. I wouldn't be able to bottle until the weekend which would mean the beer wouldn't be fully conditioned for the party.

I really would hate to have to buy a lot of beer from the liquor store.

Good Luck

Of course everything will go okay. Did you end up with the 5 gal kegs or did you find 3 gal ones.

Have fun, and leave the worrying to Fretless.

You are going to like kegging so much more than bottling. In a pinch you can go from secondary to keg to drinking in less than 3-4 hours.

As Jughead said, leave the worries to the fretless one.

Don’t worry you’ll be fine! I just got my kegging supplies about a month ago and it has been sooooo nice. I have kegged 3 batches in that time, with very few problems. The most complex problem I faces was getting CO2! The first place I went to their machine was broken. The second place no longer filled non-commercial orders. The third, the guy who does the filling had called in sick. I finally scored with the fourth place.

Getting everything set up took all of about half an hour. Filled two kegs and force carbonating took about 20 min. Then all that was left was to clean up.

You will definitely have your draft ready for new years.

Enjoy

Thanks guys. I got 2 - 5 gallon cornelius kegs (That's 4.17 gallons to you and me Jughead). I should have a 20 lb. CO2 cannister by the end of the week - its the smallest they sell up here. If that supplier doesn't work out there are several more in town that cost only a little more. CO2 for me is the easy part since I live in a town where the oil and gas industry is huge.

I was thinking I'd sanitize and fill on saturday, but I'll probably do it Friday night so I can sample on Saturday, and report back.

Sorry about your beer Fretless but don't give up hope, I have opened some of my beers after one week of conditioning that had some really weird tastes. They tended to be pretty good after the conditioning was over.

congrats on the new system. I just put my Black & Tan in the keg yesterday and despite a minor error (not seating the lid on properly and shooting a guyser of beer out of the top of the corney when I hit it with about 30 psi) I was ready to roll in about 30 minutes. The beer is still green and needs a few weeks to condition, but i've got beer on tap baby!

bye-bye bottling!

Have any of you tried the Black and Tan with Black on one tap and Tan on another?

Fuji, how the heck did you manage to shoot beer out the top of a corny?

I got an eye full of root beer syrup once when I was inspecting a used keg. I mixed up the gas and liquid posts. :D

I'm still not quite sure... all I know is that I filled it up with 5 gallons (not leaving much room between the fluid level and the top. I put the lid on the corney, but it must have been cocked at an angle, leaving an open space. I heard from somebody else on the board to "Hit it with 30 psi to seal the lid" so I did just that...

and when I "hit it" it spashed a nice guyser of beer out of the lid and onto my shirt/face.

I'm glad nobody was around to witness my blunder... it wasn't one of my finer moments.
