Hello, I currently have a 12qt. stainless steel pot. I would like to purchase a larger pot, maybe 7.5 gallon or so, so that I can boil the entire amount of wort needed.

I also want to get a good roiling boil going as well to maximize my grain flavor, etc.

Anyone know of a good place to get large SS pots cheap?

i use a 5 gallon pot (usually start with 3 gallons of cold water) and it has plenty of room.

check with your brewstore... should be less than $10

Thanks, I'm buying most stuff on line and everything is $25.00-80.00 for a 5 to 7.5 gallon pot. Local store is 45 minutes away, I just might have to make the trip!

I use a 30 quart aluminum turkey fryer, (added a spigot and built a counterflow chiller...) it gives me plenty of room for full boils.... You can find them all over for $30-$50... If you're sure you need stainless steel, I saw at 30 qt SS turkey fryer kit for $75....

THe turkey fryer kit is the way to go, I got totally ripped when I bought my stainless pot (30QT), I picked it up at my favorite HB store and got nailed for 100$ (I can't believe I actually admitted that, I feel so stupid) then I bought a single 30,000 BTU burner at a local Hardware store. I found out from my brother in law that I had just purchased one turkey fryer kit for the fantastic price of two.....
It works great though!!

CHeck restaurant supply stores and thrift shops as well. Watch out for interrnal welds and bolts that protrude throught the pan, they are nifty little safe havens for mircobes....round flush rivets are the best.

Paul have you ever had deep fried turkey? We made it once tailgating before an Eagles game, it was awesome! I might have to buy two! Thanks for the info.

I've heard that it's fantastic. I am going to buy another larger fermenter (If 5 gallons is good, then 10 has GOT to be better!)

When I do, I will buy the turkey fryer setup and pay a lot less for it....

Try and get to your local homebrew shop when you can. Those guys are the backbone of our hobby and need all the support they can get. It certainly is not a business that anyone is going to get rich in! They love the hobby and good beer.
That being said, don't get a pot any larger than 16qt. if you are an inside brewer like me. A normal stove won't take much more. The turkey fryer is a good idea, but the bottom of the pot is kind of thin. That will wear out over time with constant heat applied. Your homebrew supplier should have an inexpensive boil pot for you. (BTW, I'm in the car business. I don't own a beer shop lol) Hope this helps!

If you have a thin pot like I do you have GOT to get a "flame tamer". It is the best little kitchen gadget I have ever bought.

It is a piece of cast iron that fits on top of the stove burner. It makes every pot you have in the kitchen a thick bottomed pan. While it takes a bit longer to boil you never burn anything.

When you are done with brewing it stops the spagetti sauce from burning and keeps your seconds warm! It helps make great custards because the milk can't burn. Maybe they are $10 at the kitchen shops but you will need only one in your whole life!

I picked up a 30 qt boiling pot at the HomeBrew shop and got royally screwed.....it's the exact same pot that came with my brother in laws turkey fryer and I paid 3x as much for it.

But I still go there to get my kits and supplies, I like the people.
