I currently have 3 bottles of Fuller's 2000 Vintage Ale. I would be willing to depart with one of them (maybe two if the deal was sweet enough). I'm looking for other vintage beers. Names I would be interested in:
Anchor Our Special Ale 1999 or earlier
Rogue Old Crustacean Barleywine any year
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine 2001 or 1997 or earlier
Thomas Hardy any year
Lee's Harvest Ale any year
Gale Prize Old Ale any year
Sam Adams Triple Bock '94 or '97
Sammiclaus any year
Any other interesting beers you might be willing to barter with...

Let me know if you might be interested...

Most of my collection is comprised of single bottles, some of which are on your list but I cannot part with them.

I do however have a bottle of Fullers Vintage Ale 1999 and a bottle of Cave Creek Chili Beer, its 9 years old and the color has gone off. I don't know if its common in your area, but it lasted all of six months in mine.

I know where I can acquire maybe a bottle or 2 of the Sam Adams triple bock.(unsure of the year) I'm not sure of the price but the gentleman who has them isn't likely to let them go cheap.

Id be willing to swap both of mine for one of yours. If not, maybe we can work something else out.

Not really interested in the chili beer, I would be interested in Sam Adams Triple if it is 94 or 97. I have over a case of 95, so I'm not in much need of that, however I can barter with that as well. I'd be willing to trade one for one on the Fullers, my 2000 for your 1999. Any interest or other offer?

Geeze you guys!!!

I couldn't collect beer - I just couldn't keep a good beer away from my mouth!!!

Yeah, why do you guys collect full bottles? I understand the whole bottle conditioning thing, but other than that is there a reason? I'd personally rather enjoy it and add to my empty bottle collection, than look at a full bottle.

I display my collection so the world can see it. I've been collecting for years now and it appeals to me. Gotta have some sort of hobby, plus its cheaper the my other hobby of road racing my 1996 Ford Cobra. When I buy beer, I take one out for the collection and savor the rest. On occasion Ill buy a case of something specially released and cellar it for future drunkenness. The reason I leave them full is so that I don't have to clean them out all the time and worry about the dreaded stinky beer mold, very bad and ugly. Most people I know admire the collection and are always inquisitive about it. Hence, I convert them over to real beer and not that corn and rice swill that calls itself "beer" that they usually drink and that's my mission.

I have recently discovered both Vintage Ale 2000 and 2001 at a local retailer, sneaking bastard had them in his back room and never told me. Thanks for all your help.

Not a problem. Hope you enjoy the Vintage Ale.

To answer the other question, I don't really think of it as "collecting" full beers. Much the same way a person has a wine cellar with many vintages that are intended to be drank, I have several vintages of many beers tucked away in my celler with the full intent of drinking them. They are not on display (light bad for beer!). I keep them in cases hidden from light and at a relatively constant temperature. A few months back I had a Lee's Harvest Ale from 1986. A few weeks ago I had a Traquair House Ale from 1998. The complexity and mellowness of those beers was indescribable! It was a truly awesome beer drinking experience that transcends just about every other beer experience you could imagine. That is why I cellar beers. To drink them. After all, isn't that is what beer is really for?

I have to admit, that's pretty interesting.... I can see wanting to do it, I just couldn't stand the wait!!!

Do any of the beers oxidize after time?

Have you tried the bottle works in Wallingford:
Bottleworks Inc
1710 North 45th Street, Seattle, WA 98103
(206) 633-2437

They have a great selection of hard to find seasonal and bigger beers, not to mention Vintage Ale...

Hey sOOz,
I might be interested in a beer barter with you! The '99 Anchor is the only vintage I'm missing from '96 up to now. (I don't know what I was thinking that year!) I would also be interested in the Fuller's as well. Is there anything in particular (style or brand) you are looking for? I have quite a few beers stashed away in my cellar and could make some suggestions, if I know what styles you like. (Among many others, I have several bottles of Sammichlaus, Skull Splitter, Dark Island) Let me know, maybe we can work something out!:p

I too have cellared beers, many of them rare. I am excited about a recent find of that elusive oak aged Ballantine brew. I found 4 bottles of a 1930s batch aged and bottled in 1952. The labels were barely intact but they were given to a friend of the brewery named Brown. I have other full labels in my label collection from some of these famous bottlings. I have not yet sampled a bottle and I am unsure of thier handling since the early 1950's. I have read articles about others tasting these beers when they turn up. Most reviews say they have held up remarkably. Unfortunately the bottles are green glass and judging by the shape of the labels these might not have been taken care of as well as I would have hoped. But then again how often do you get to sample legendary 70 + year old beer. I need to inventory what I have in my cellar and will post the listing here afterwards. I know I do have extra of 94 and 95 triplebock.

i think i may be able to pick up some 2001 bigfoot barleywine. i know a little place that carries a few of the nicer beers, but sells almost exclusively the 'corn and rice' macros. thigs like barleywines just sit in their fridge for a long time...

Brewdog, I feel for ya, sitting around with nothing better to do than look up 3 year old posts. Couldn't you find a rerun of Jake And The Fat Man or something? ;)
