I have a Grolsch bottle approx. 42 oz. Will the bottle filler displacement leave enough room in the bottle or should I under fill just a bit? I have never bottled in anything this big before.

I would think that for 40 oz you would need a little more than the filler tube displacement. I would give it about 2 inches or so in the neck.

is the bottle taller than a regular bottle?
if it is you will get more displacement from the filler.
i use the same filler on both sizes of beer bottles that i use.

I have bottled in these same size bottles nd have never intentionally left extra headspace. I filled as i would any other bottle leaving only the space left from the filler. I have never had a problem with this. Never had a bottle break to date.

On the other hand, Fast_Eddy did a SteamRoller Stout batch that would not carbonate in the keg until he had pulled off several flat pints and given it room to work.

I filled it leaving just the bottle filler tube displacement. It is in one of thise porcelin stopper bottles on the wire frame. Ir I find it hasn't carbonated in about 2 weeks, I'll just pour a little off and see if that works. I hope it does, though I have plenty of smaller bottles. It is a porter brown ale hybrid. I added some Irish Cream flavoring and some lactose. It sure tasted good going into the bottle.
