View Full Version : Not bitter enough - what can I do?

So I brewed up a 5 gallon batch last Sunday. It's been sitting in the primary fermenter going
along fine. I looked at my notes today and realized that I put way too little bittering hops in.
What can I do? Can I boil a little water with a lot of hops and add this when I rack to the secondary?
It was a brown ale with a rather high starting gravity: 1.061
So I'm worried that it'll be really sweet without the hop bitterness.
Oh what to do?

Two words:

HOP EXTRACT

Ahhh.....and how would I go about using these? And how much should I use? My recipe called
for about one and a half ounces and I think I only used 3/4 ozs or less (I'd had a few
homebrews and wasn't exactly thinkin' straight!)

You can use hop extract(I don't know about the quantities) or you can do like you suggested and boil some hops by themselves and add it the secondary.

i'd recommend just drinking it and making another batch with more hops next time. ya know- relax, don't worry and have a homebrew.
