I have friends of mine driving in for the holidays from New York City. Any recommendations on what microbrewed beer to ask her to bring back for me?

I don't know where you live but Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout is one to stock up on if it's not available to you. Also, if they don't mind making the drive to Southampton Publick House for some bottles, it'll be worth it. From everything I hear, they brew some unbelievable stuff.
Check out some of these other "local" brews:
High Point Winter Wheat - a potent Weizenbock brewed by High Point Wheat Beer Co. in NJ
Anything from Heavyweight Brewing in NJ - I'm partial to the Perkuno's Hammer Imperial Porter.
Should be plenty of Dogfish Head brews available in NYC if it's not where you live - new WWS, Festina Lente (peach lambic) and Pangea just hit shelves.
Good luck - beer is a great gift! Cheers!

I second Newportstorm's recommendations. For Heavyweight, my faves are the Sticknjab Alt and the Old Salty Barleywine.
I think Brooklyn is the only NYC brewery that bottles...
From Long Island is Bluepoint, which I think is decent and is available in Manhattan. They have the Old Howling Bastard Barleywine out now in (i think) 750 ml bottles.

I'm in Michigan. I haven't had ANY New York microbrewed beer that I remember. I will ask them about some of the brews you mentioned. Thanks for the input.
