Old extracts

I bought used equipment from an ad in the paper. It included a can of EDME wheat beer and EDME extract. I have no idea how old they are. Is there a way to find out? Or should I trust in the beer gods and see what happens.

P.S. The plastic equpiment he had I discarded. Did not want to chance an infection.

I would chance using it. I used infected malt once, frozen after infected, and it came out a fine beer. I think discarding the old plastic was a smart move.

Thanks, I'm going to try a lighter ale for my first beer. (Convince the creditor(wife) that this will work and she'll like it) But after that I may try the older stock.

A friend gave me some Beer Machine mixes that were a couple of years old. Well since Beer Machine is low quality, and old, I used it to make starters. A cup of old extract, two cups of water, worked out great. Just a thought, good luck.
