I did a bohemian pilsner. ORG was about 1.056. I fermented at 47-51 for 3 weeks. The bubble rate has slowed and I racked to secondary. The Gravity is currently 1.030.

Should I leave it at 47-51 for a bit longer or am I ready to go to 34-38 for 2 months?

FYI, this is my first lager.

Raise the temp to 55 for a few days-your beer is far from done. It should get to around 1.012 eventually. When it gets to around 1.020, let the temp rise to around 65F for 3-7 days, or until it gets down under 1.015 at least. Then lager it around 32F

Ok, thanks for the input. I thought it was a pretty high. I didn't know if it would finish while lagering the two months or not. I'll raise the temp for a few more weeks.

Just an update. I pulled the gravity from the yeasty bit at the bottom after transferring. I haven't noticed problems from having yeast in the gravity tube before, but this was a rather thick bit.

I let the yeast settle to the bottom in the fridge overnight. The gravity of clear yeast free beer came to 1.012, which is where I expected it to be.

I'm assuming the hydrometer was resting on some this sludge at the bottom of the tube. Anyhow I dropped the temp to 34-38 and the lagering has begun.

Don't forget that temperature also comes into play when taking a hydrometer reading.

Yeah, I take temperature into consideration. I let it samples cool down or warm up to about 70 before taking readings. Then I adjust accordingly.

At this point I'm not even sure why I bothered reporting the gravity from the sludge. The way it "floated" in the tube was pretty obviously effecting something, but then again like everything home brew panic and over-reaction followed by under-action tend to be the norm.
