I know most don't talk music on here, but I saw a great concert last night and wanted to share. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are just amazing. Not often do you get to see two performers that good play together. I am talking about Bela Fleck and Victor Whooten.

Bela Fleck is pretty popular in Chicago, his stuff gets a little air on one of the more progressive stations here and I've heard the shows are great.

From what I understand, Bela Fleck is going to release a TRIPLE album, soon. Must be a lot of music under his belt. When was the last time anybody released anything of 3 disks that wasn't a greatest hits package?

Yeah, he has a three disc set coming out that is all new music. We got to hear them play a song the other night they have never performed before. That was exciting.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones have been around a long time. They get little airplay here though and when they tour it is usually some of our smaller venues.

Alright, I know this isn't beer related, but since this is a music thread, I thought I'd throw it in. Every once and a while, my wife and I play this game called "Top All Time Concerts". In other words, if you had a Way Back Machine, what concerts would you go to that you couldn't before? You can't pick concerts you actually have attended. My top 5 continually change, but here's what' I'd pick tonight (by the way, I was born in 1968):
1. Rolling Stones, circa 1972, Exile on Main Street.
2. The Clash, circa 1980, London Calling.
3. U2, circa 1980, first American tour.
4. Hendrix, circa 1967, touring all over England
5. Stevie Ray Vaughn, circa anytime
Like I said, it changes from time to time. For instance, I might through one of Springsteens tours in there, but that's what it feels like tonight...

ouch...that hits a nerve.
Several of my relatives and friends went to Alpine Valley, WI the night SRV died...I had just moved from WI to MN and was unable to attend; they said it was one of the best show he had ever done.
My next one would be 1975; Deep Purple, with Glenn Hughes and Tommy Bolin...TB died in 1976
PS - eerie...as I type this SRV is playing on Spinner.com

I would've loved to have seen Led Zeppelin in their hey-day. I did see Page and Plant on their tour, but it's not quite the same.

Hey Brownbeard,
Agreed Bela is one talented musician. Since you have that Jerry icon I was wondering if you ever heard him sit in with JGB. It was back in August of 90 at the Greek. He actually opened the show but sat in with the band for the start of the 2nd set. Midnight Moonlight and Harder they Come. If you havent already, take a listen to this if you get the chance it's wonderful.
Living in the Northeast Bela comes thru here at least once a year. Always a fun show.

Ohh By the way did Victor do his solo version of amazing grace? His bass solo is always my favorite part of the show. With the exception of when they purposely try to make Bela make a mistake. The look of focus on his face is intense.

Rush, during the "Exit Stage Left" tour
Yes, "Close to the Edge" tour
David Lee Roth, "Eat 'em and Smile" tour
Weather Report, on the last tour before Jaco left
Joni Mitchell, "Miles of Aisles" tour

Ah...but the classic Deep Purple combination was, for my dollar, Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover and Ian Paice. That band rocked, and that would certainly have been a concert that I would have wanted to see that I never got to.
Beaver: I did get to see LZ in 1975 and again in 1977. For the latter show a friend and I spent the night in line outside of the old Dallas Convention Center. Bought 20 prime seats at the unbelievable rate (then) of $7.00 a seat!

Yes, I agree...but I did see that lineup, so they don't make my list!

Beatles rooftop concert 1969. I have seen Paul at least 5 times, Saw George when he toured in 75, and Ringo once sat in on Back in the USSR played by the Beach Boys on the National Mall during one of thier July 4th Concerts. I would like to have been to the Concerts for Bangla Desh and Last Days of the Fillmore. Or have seen the legendary shows at Fillmore East by the Allman Brothers. Maybe Woodstock. I have seen most of the 60s legends from Clapton to the Dead to Dylan. I gotta say though...I'm too old for the Big Rock Show! I was born in 1957. I will only endure the stadium ordeal now for a very select few. I do occasionally see shows at Wolf Trap and even though Nissan Pavillian is in my backyard, I have never been there. My most recent ventures out were to MCI Center to see Paul and the Three Tenors. And La Boheme at Kennedy Center.

You are never too old to rock-n-roll!
Besides, being born in 57 was a great year for Chevys, Strats, & me. Although staduim shows aren't worth the money to watch it on a Jumbotron & fight lines in the bathrooms
.
Shows that I saw & thought were great (in particular order):
1.U2- War tour (1983)
2. Pink Floyd - Animals tour (1977)
3. Led Zeppelin - 1977
4. SRV - several times
5. Rush - 2112 tour (1977)
6. Santana - too many times to remember

Yes, and we're all glad for that... :p
I saw the Dead & Black Flag for the 1st time in the same week. Although I smoked enough pot to alter reality @ the Dead, Black Flag wins out.

I dunno! For an old Parrothead like myself, Buffett has been good for thirty years of pure hedonism!

I've seen them a number of times. (Last time was with Dylan) Saw Garcia by himself on several tours as well. I also saw the New Riders Of the Purple Sage when they toured back in the 70s. I may be the only one, but I like the deads studio albums better than the live shows. I hwas listening to some old GD stuff today. I know that this is a tough question, but what does everyone think is the best dead song. And for that matter, the best Beatles song? For me, just like beer preferences, it could change with my mood and may not be the same choices tomorrow. Right now I would pick box of Rain from the Dead and toss up between Strawberry Fields and Across the Universe for the Beatles.

Ripple is indeed a fine song. On the same album as Box of Rain.
Brownbeard,
Gotta say that I just listened to a Bela Fleck CD and thought it was great. I bought it at the record shop today when I happened to see it sitting in a used bin. Wouldn't have bought it without hearing all the praise on this board.
