For a long time I was not into the appearance of my beer, but I have started thinking about getting a filter.

I am pretty lazy and from what I have read filtering can be done with very little extra effort.

I was looking for some opinions regarding the following:

pump or gravityfeed
types of filters (brands and/or styles)
results

Thanks

Don't give into the temptation. Like the url says... realbeer! Who's pressuring you into the clear beer thing?

Actually, kegging is one way to get clear beer, without a filter (even without force carbonating). Usually the first few beers are a little cloudy, but later on all it settles out and then the tap pours really clean.

A filter should be run with a pump IMHO.

I have never dealt with a homebrew filter just the stuff in the pub but I have used both sheet (plate and frame) as well as cartridge.

Depending on how tight you want to go you will need to fine the beer before filtering or risk clogging the pads as you go over. 2.5Microns is probably tight enough without the risk of stripping away your beers character but tight enough that your beer should be clear.

well, i'm new and all to this brewing thing (under one year)...but don't filter...tell them it's real ale like how our forefathers drank :) but then again, i don't brew crowd pleasers...if folks don't wanna drink my home brew they can bring their own bud light!

St. Pat's has an inline filter kit for $40,

that looks like it just goes between two kegs. You just use CO2 to move the liquid.

I say don't. This is home brew. If you want your beer to be clear, use Irish moss or one of the other clearing agents available. If your beer is tasting good and you don't have a problem with a little haze, relax and enjoy.
