So!

I'm looking to brew some beer, as (with the exception of one batch this past weekend) I haven't brewed in over 3 months, and my HB selection is as poor as our economy right now.

The thing is, I have my hops already, and don't really want to buy any more. I'm ok with a pale or and IPA, and most likely will throw something dark in to either one of those batches...think dark pale (oxymoron, I know) or dark IPA (yah, I get it). I have 2 oz. of Amarillo pellets and 1 oz of Cascade leaf.

What i'm thinking is a schedule like this:

1z Amarillo 60
1z Amarillo 20
1z Cascade 5

Does that look ok for a hop schedule?

thanks!

ProMash is tellin' me this is about 65 IBU's if the Amarillo's are 10% and 5.75% for the Cascade.

If you're that in to hops, have at it! By the book that's a bit high for an IPA (60IBU top end on the BJCP site).

Just some info...

Maybe an Imperial American ESB.
12 pounds Maris Otter
1 pound Crystal 60
.3 pounds chocolate
Safale-04
Think about saving the Cascade for dryhopping.

My first thought if you want to just go for it is go with a constantly hopped pale. Start with a basic pale ale recipe but divide the hops into an every 10 minute schedule. I have a recipe for 10 gallons using these 2 hops mixed together. It would be easy to reduce it to 5 gal. It turns out a little different each time. If you're are interested I will see if I can find it. I haven't brewed it for a while.

Sounds good, so leave out the Cascades until dryhopping time?

Yeah, or you could just get more hops....which might work better, since you'll have a nice hoppy imperial.

I did this with my homegrown Cascades(well dried, not wet)-2 oz's at 60 minutes, and another oz every 10 minutes until flameout. Worst beer I've ever brewed, bar none. But it was the hops-they tasted like freshly mowed bermuda grass. Hopefully next year the hops will taste hoppier.

Corky, if you have any left, I'd like to taste it.

I've been using the full keg to keep my fridge door shut tight when I had 6 kegs in there. It's sitting in the garage right now, come on over and help yourself. I actually have the second keg on tap, I didn't dry hop it and it's a little better but not something I'd serve to friends.
