We will be in Regensburg from Sept. 12th through Sept. 19th.
Any bier fests going on then?
Also I have the names of some places:
Alte Linde, Kneitinger Keller, Gaststaette Spitalgarten: These were given to me as bier gardens.
Weissbraeuhaus, Kneitinger, Bischofshof: There were given to me as bier halle.
Are there any others? They told me that the gardens usually stay open until end of September.
Which are the best of the above? We just want a good Bavarian bier drinking experience with a good Bayern atmosphere. Thanks in advance.

Contact Stahlsturm. He lives in Regensburg and is quite an expert on the local beer scene.

You can also look up some of Stahl's previous posts as I know that he once listed his favorites in Regensburg.

I'll make a new answer :)
There are 3 breweries and 2 brewpubs in Regensburg.
"Alte Linde" and "Kneitiger Garten" are both official taps of the Kneitinger Brewery. You can find more info @ www.kneitinger.de
The "Spitalgarten" is the offical tap of the Spital Brewery. There's also a "Spitalkeller" which is also official. More info on that @ www.spital.de
Then there's the Bischofshof Brewery which has 2 official taps, one of them right in town near the cathedral (beware, it's a tourist trap) and another out of the center next to the new brewery buildings. Info on Bischofshof can be found here: www.bischofshof.de
Then there is the "Regensburger Weißbräuhaus" which, despite the name also makes a regular Hell and a regular Dunkel. The brewer there came in from the Brauerei Jacob in Bodenwöhr so you know it's good stuff. More info @ www.regensburger-weissbrauhaus.de
And last there the "Fürstliche Brauhaus Thurn Und Taxis" and as much as I hate our local nobles I have to admit that the beer there isn't too bad. I did like the Postmeister Dunkel in particular. Info on that establishment is here: www.fuerstlichesbrauhaus.de
Besides these strictly local breweries you'll also be able to get beer by Prösselbräu Adlersberg, Erlbräu Geiselhöring and the Schloßbrauerei Eichhofen without too much trouble.
Assuming that you mean September 2009 I can probably make a day off and show you around in person :)

I was in the Kontakt Club for Vilseck @ the Grafenwöhr base for about a year and nobody there really had any interest in beer besides drinking a lot and getting hammered.

I was stationed in Grafenwohr, I was in the 535th. My friends and I tried to get away from the bases as much as possible, there were too many soldiers that were more interested in quantity than quality. Personally I miss my Erdinger, I found some over here but it didn't taste right.

Yeah, Graf is about an hour from Regensburg but for some reason the only cities GIs ever seem to (want to) go are Nürnberg, München and Salzburg. It's odd...

We went to the Medieval Festival in Rothenburg, traveled a lot, saw the really long waterfall, (can't think of the name right now, it's 4:30 am and I'm getting ready for work), was going to see the Eagle's Nest but the day we were there the whole mountain was covered in fog. We also took advantage of being so close to the other countries, saw Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Czech. Technically speaking I was in France, about three feet over the Swiss border when we were skiing in the mountains.

He works on base in school at Hohenfels or Vilseck (think it is the later). They also have a new high school (just finished) in operation. Many Americans in this area. Amberg has a lot of big drinking opportunities. Am going to read all of the old Stahsturm entries before I ask anything again.
Any unfiltiertes bier isn't that bad.

Yeah, Amberg and especially the surrounding county of Amberg-Sulzbach has a wealth of brewing places and many of them are REALLY good.

I was at Graf from 1983-1986. When you went north of Grafenwoehr, you got into great beer towns. I spent most of my time in Kulmbach and Bayreuth.
There was one brewery in Weiden that produced the best helles beer that you could buy in a 15 liter wooden cask. The wood added the most mellow flavor.

That was probably Iblacker. They closed in the early 2000s unfortunately, leaving Gambrinus the only brewery in Weiden.

I love Erdinger that is available here, so I will definitely have to try it in Germany one day.
Thank you
